Security drill held in Delhi markets

Diwali, one of India's biggest festivals, is round the the corner and markets like the one in Sarojini Nagar is teeming with enthusiastic shoppers all through the day.

October 13th, 2009 KOCHI - To counter any untoward act of terrorism, the armed forces on Tuesday conducted a mock security and emergency drill in Kochi. The Indian Army, Coast Guard, Navy and state police participated in the joint exercise, which was aimed to learn and execute coordinated action plan during any emergency situation.

October 12th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A security drill was Monday carried out in a busy market in south Delhi to check the level of preparedness in the wake of any terror attack. The drill was conducted in the M-Block market of Greater Kailash in the afternoon where a mock bomb was triggered to check response of various agencies including police, fire, hospital and bomb disposal squads, a police officer said.

"A security drill was conducted at Vishal Cinema in Rajouri Garden and at Central Market in Lajpat Nagar and in Najafgarh area," Delhi Police's public relations officer Rajan Bhagat told IANS.

September 7th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Union Home Minister P.Chidambaram on Monday assured full and comprehensive security will be provided during the Commonwealth Games to be held in October 2010 in Delhi. Speaking to a private news channel on the security arrangements for the Commonwealth Games, Chidambaram said the participating countries need not have any fear.

July 7th, 2009 NEW DELHI - To provide fool-proof security to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), the government has created 3,039 posts in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), parliament was informed Tuesday. Replying to a question in the house, Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullapally Ramachandran said the increase in the strength of the CISF, deployed for the security of the DMRC, is a continuous process.

June 28th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Commuters of the Delhi Metro were caught by surprise Sunday when a series of mock drills conducted at five metro sites caused rail traffic to come to a standstill for over 40 minutes. Starting 8 a.m., the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) staged mock drills wherein scenes depicting terrorist attacks and serial bomb blasts were created simultaneously in five different metro premises, a DMRC statement said.
