October 4th, 2009 RANCHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Jharkhand unit Sunday announced that it would hold a demonstration in front of the governor's house Oct 11 to press for early assembly elections in the state. "Around one lakh (100,000) party workers from all over the state will participate in the demonstration.

September 27th, 2009 RANCHI - Jharkhand Governor K. Sankaranarayanan Sunday announced compensation of Rs.1 lakh for the kin of each of those labourers from the state who were killed in a Balco power plant in Chhattisgarh last week.

September 9th, 2009 RANCHI - All 22 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators in Jharkhand Wednesday resigned from the assembly and demanded lifting of the president's rule and early elections in the state. The BJP legislators accompanied by state party president Raghubar Das, Lok Sabha members, former chief minister Arjun Munda and former central minister Yashwant Sinha met Speaker Aalamgir Aalam and submitted their resignations.

August 20th, 2009 RANCHI - Faced with a drought-like situation in all 24 districts of the state, the Jharkhand government has opened around 150 outlets to sell essential food items at fair price, an official said Thursday. The outlets known as Suvidha Stores is a joint venture of the Jharkhand State Agricultural Marketing Board (JSAMB) and the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI).

August 2nd, 2009 RANCHI - The Jharkhand Government has declared the entire State as drought-hit due to inadequate rainfall that it has received in the last two months. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Advisory Council of the Governor, which was chaired by G Krishnan, adviser to Governor K.

July 29th, 2009 RANCHI - Jharkhand Wednesday declared seven more districts as drought hit after scanty rainfall affected paddy crop in the state. Earlier, four of Jharkhand's 24 districts were declared drought hit.

July 28th, 2009 KOHIMA - Manipur Governor Gurbachan Jagat, who has been entrusted additional charge of Nagaland by President Pratibha Patil, will be sworn-in today. The ceremony will be held at the Raj Bhavan.

July 20th, 2009 RANCHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday demanded a probe in the role of outgoing Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibte Razi during President's rule in the state. "Razi's rule was controversial and his work during president rule should be probed," state BJP chief Raghubar Das told IANS, adding the governor had taken hundreds of crucial decisions "which he should not have taken".
