September 20th, 2009 ALLAHABAD - Three men were arrested with huge quantity of explosives from Shankergarh area of the Allahabad district Sunday, police said. About 400 kg of ammonium nitrate, over 400 detonators and fuse wires were seized from the possession of the three men in Shankergarh, which is on the border with Madhya Pradesh.

September 16th, 2009 LUCKNOW - A man who supplied the rectified spirit allegedly used to make the spurious liquor that killed 29 people in Uttar Pradesh last week has been arrested, police said Wednesday. Praveen was arrested from Haryana's Rohtak district Tuesday.

September 7th, 2009 LUCKNOW - The crime branch of the Lucknow police Monday busted a fake ghee manufacturing unit in posh Gomtinagar locality and arrested two people, including the owner of the factory, officials said. "We raided the Amrita Dairy Private Limited and recovered over 50 quintals of manufactured fake and adulterated ghee," Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rajesh Singh told reporters.

August 19th, 2009 BHOPAL - There is no respite from high retail prices of sugar in Madhya Pradesh even though authorities continued their anti-hoarding drive Wednesday and seized around 1,500 tonnes of illegally stocked sugar. The wholesale price of the commodity came down after the government sized some 4,000 tonnes of hoarded sugar in the last five days, but consumers say they are still paying high price in the retail market.

August 18th, 2009 BHOPAL - Sugar prices have declined in the wholesale market in Madhya Pradesh after the government raided sugar mills and godowns across the state and seized around 2,000 tonnes of hoarded sugar in the last four days. "The wholesale price which was Rs.3,300 per quintal till Monday came down to the range of Rs.2,850 and Rs.2,950 and is likely to fall further," Karamchandani, a wholesaler here, told IANS.

August 17th, 2009 BHOPAL - Food and civil supplies officials backed by state police have raided sugar mills and godowns across Madhya Pradesh in the last three days and seized 1,400 tonnes of hoarded sugar, sources said Monday. The officials seized 400 tonnes of sugar worth Rs.1 crore from three warehouses in Morena Sunday, while 820 tonnes worth Rs.2.5 crore were seized at godowns of transporters in Indore and Gwalior, a state civil supplies department official told IANS.

June 18th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A Madhya Pradesh court Thursday sentenced a tiger poacher to three years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000, officials said Thursday. Dariya (only the first name was given) was convicted Thursday by a court in Katni in Madhya Pradesh, the NGO Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI) said in a statement here.

June 14th, 2009 AGRA - A spurious ghee, or clarified butter, manufacturing unit was raided and hundreds of tins of the adulterated product seized in this Uttar Pradesh city, police said Sunday. A police team along with health officers of the Agra Municipal Corporation raided the factory in Jharna nullah locality amid a dense babool forest and found ghee being manufactured from animal fat boiled in huge iron pans.

The state cabinet Tuesday decided that passing higher secondary or graduation from Madhya Pradesh would not be a criteria for recruitment through the MPPSC.

January 8th, 2009 BHOPAL - As many as 43 people were sentenced in Madhya Pradesh's Katni forest division for poaching and smuggling of animal parts, official said Friday. Minister of State for Forests (independent charge) Rajendra Shukla said in an official statement that of these 43 people, 11 were sentenced to three-year imprisonment, 18 for two years and remaining 14 for one year.
