The incident took place Monday in Dhimrapur locality in the industrial city of Raigarh, about 240 km northeast of the state capital Raipur.

September 12th, 2009 PATNA - Gunmen looted cash and a video camera from a Maldivian businessman in Gaya district of Bihar, police said Saturday. Ahmad Ali was visiting his relatives in Nadaura village when he was robbed Thursday.

September 9th, 2009 RAIPUR - A 19-year-old man has been arrested with fake currency notes of over Rs.200,000 in this Chhattisgarh capital, police said Wednesday. Sheikh Borjaha was held with fake currency notes of denominations of Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 at a hotel here Tuesday night, Superintendent of Police (Raipur) Amit Kumar told reporters.

August 21st, 2009 RAIPUR - Police Friday arrested about 100 members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Chhattisgarh capital for protesting Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi's visit to the university. Some 100 activists, belonging to ABVP, were arrested for demonstrating outside the Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University where Gandhi was scheduled to interact with members of Congress' student wing, National Students Union of India (NSUI), according to Amit Kumar, Raipur district superintendent of police.

July 30th, 2009 RAIPUR - Three people were killed and at least 22 others injured Thursday when a tractor trolley they were travelling in fell into a ditch in Chhattisgarh's Mahasamund district, police said. "The tractor trolley, that was carrying 25 people, fell into a roadside ditch after the driver lost control," a police officer said.

July 12th, 2009 RAIPUR - Three people including a National Institute of Technology (NIT) girl student and her boy friend have been arrested for their involvement in the looting of Rs.2 million in the Chhattisgarh capital Tuesday, police said Sunday. "We have cracked the Rs.2 million Raipur loot case with the arrest of three people including the kingpin Khushbu, a fifth semester student of NIT and her boy friend Zia-ul-Asim, a small trader," Raipur Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told reporters here.

July 6th, 2009 RAIPUR - A day after a van laden with detonators went missing in Chhattisgarh's restive Bastar region, police said Monday that the van had been recovered but the detonators were looted by the unidentified people who had hijacked the vehicle. The Mahindra Max pickup van that had 2,500 detonators went missing Sunday on the way from Mandir Hasod on Raipur's outskirts to an iron-ore mine in Kirandul in Dantewada region.

June 19th, 2009 RANCHI - Unidentified men Friday looted Rs.33 lakh (Rs.3.3 million) at gun point from a bank in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district, police said. According to police, around half a dozen robbers entered UCO Bank near Malvia Road in Hazaribagh town at 11.30 a.m.

April 29th, 2009 RAIPUR - At least eight people, including two women and a four-year-old boy, were killed and 18 seriously injured in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district Wednesday when the bus they were travelling in hit a tree and turned turtle, police said. The accident took place in Mainpur area, some 125 km from here, when the driver of the speeding private bus lost control and hit a huge tree, said Lambodar Patel, in-charge of the Mainpur police station.

March 21st, 2009 RAIPUR - The state police are yet to find trader Sunil Waswani, who was abducted Thursday by unidentified persons near Chhattisgarh Chief Minister's official residence, despite stepping up search operations. Police suspect that the trader was abducted purely for ransom purposes but Waswani's family has not received any ransom call by Friday evening.

February 21st, 2009 RAIPUR - The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will invest Rs.1.36 billion for construction of a new integrated terminal at the Raipur airport, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said here Friday. 'The AAI will be investing Rs.136 crore (Rs.1.36 billion) for a new integrated terminal at Raipur airport to make it an international-standard airport,' Patel said here at a function to lay the foundation stone for the new terminal building.

February 15th, 2009 RAIPUR - At least a dozen people and eight policemen were injured here Monday when the police baton charged protesters carrying a youth's body near the official residence of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, police said. The clash broke out after over a hundred protesters carrying the body of a 23-year-old youth, Gulshan Meghani, wanted to march towards the chief minister's residence to stage a protest, but the police stopped them.

February 15th, 2009 RAIPUR - A day-long traders' strike, called by the Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Industries here Monday to protest against the anti-encroachment drive of the Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC), caused a loss of at least Rs.1 billion (Rs.100 crore), the lobby said. The RMC has demolished over 250 shopping outlets in the city within a month.

January 15th, 2009 RAIPUR - About 100 Maoist guerrillas set ablaze a private bus on a national highway in the restive Bastar region of Chhattisgarh and also looted some of the passengers, police said Friday. The Maoist rebels stopped a Hyderabad-bound private bus, which had started from Kirandul town, on National Highway 221 close to the Andhra Pradesh border, about 500 km south of the state capital here.
