July 13th, 2009 RANCHI - Unidentified criminals looted around Rs.700,000 from a petrol pump owner in Ranchi Monday, police said. According to police, Gautam Ghosh, owner of Friends Automobiles as also a petrol pump near Katatoli roundabout of Ranchi, was going to deposit around Rs.700,000 in a bank.

July 7th, 2009 RANCHI - Jharkhand Tuesday declared four of its 24 districts as drought hit, an official said. The four districts which have been declared as drought hit are Palamau, Chatra, Latehar and Garhwa.

June 19th, 2009 RANCHI - Unidentified men Friday looted Rs.33 lakh (Rs.3.3 million) at gun point from a bank in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh district, police said. According to police, around half a dozen robbers entered UCO Bank near Malvia Road in Hazaribagh town at 11.30 a.m.

June 9th, 2009 RANCHI - Three unidentified men Tuesday looted Rs.11.6 lakh from an employee of an automobile company, police said. According to police, Santosh Kumar of Shyama Automobiles was going to deposit the cash in the bank, when three criminals, following him on a motorcycle on the Ratu road, snatched the bag containing the cash at gun point.

June 1st, 2009 RANCHI - Three people were injured while trying to fight robbers who looted cash and other valuables worth Rs.200,000 from train passengers in Jharkhand, police said Monday. Around 10 robbers raided a sleeper coach of a passenger train between Telo and Chandrapura railway stations Sunday night.

May 22nd, 2009 GHAZIABAD - Three armed robbers looted Rs.1.2 million (Rs.12 lakh) from a bank here Friday afternoon, police said. According to the police, the robbers came on two motorcycles at 3.00 p.m.

May 20th, 2009 SHIMLA - Four armed men Wednesday looted a bank in Himachal Pradesh's Solan district, the police said. 'Four robbers entered a branch of the UCO Bank this noon and at gunpoint looted Rs.681,000 in the industrial township of Barotiwala in Solan district,' Deputy Inspector General Pardeep Kumar told IANS by phone.

May 15th, 2009 PANCHKULA - In a broad daylight heist, five armed young men looted over Rs.1.1 million from a nationalised bank in a busy market place here Friday, police said. According to the police, five young men, who were communicating in Hindi and Punjabi, entered the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Sector 20 here Friday afternoon and looted the cash on gunpoint.

April 6th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - An accountant and his colleague working in a factory here were robbed of Rs.1.30 lakh in cash and their scooter Monday when they were returning after withdrawing money from a bank, the police said. The accountant, Umesh Sharma, and his colleague Dinesh Kumar were on their way back from Shahdara around 5.00 p.m.

April 4th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Armed Maoists looted Rs.9.9 million in cash from the security van of a bank in Orissa's Malkangiri district Saturday, police said. 'Around 15 rebels stopped the vehicle of State Bank of India by putting boulders on the road, beat up two security personnel who were in the vehicle and looted the cash,' district police chief Satyabrata Bhoi told IANS on telephone.

February 9th, 2009 JAMSHEDPUR - Unidentified robbers opened fire and injured an employee of a transport company and snatched Rs.850,000 from him in this steel city of Jharkhand Tuesday afternoon, police said. According to the police, the man had withdrawn the cash from an ICICI Bank branch in Jamshedpur.

February 2nd, 2009 RANCHI - Three Maoist rebels, including a commander, were arrested in Jharkhand Tuesday, the police said. Following a tip-off, the rebels belonging to People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were arrested from the Bachau jungle, around 60 km from here.
