July 26th, 2009 RANCHI - Kateekal Sankaranarayanan was sworn in as governor of Jharkhand at a ceremony at the Raj Bhavan here Sunday. Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Gyan Sudha Mishra administered the oath of office and secrecy at a ceremony attended by leaders of political parties and other dignitaries.

July 26th, 2009 RANCHI - Kateekal Sankaranarayanan on Sunday sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand State, which is presently under President's rule. June 30th, 2009 BHOPAL - Senior Congress leader and former Karnataka governor Rameshwar Thakur was sworn in here Tuesday as the 18th governor of Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Leader of Opposition in assembly Jamuna Devi, state Congress Committee president Suresh Pachouri, Madhya Pradesh cabinet ministers and other dignitaries were present on the occasion at Raj Bhavan.

June 29th, 2009 BANGALORE - Former Union Law Minister H R Bharadwaj will take over as the Governor of Karnataka today. Bhardwaj replaces Rameshwar Thakur, who has been appointed Madhya Pradesh Governor for his remaining tenure.

June 24th, 2009 NEW DELHI J - President Pratibha Patil replaced the Governors of Karnataka, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. According to a communiqui issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Devanand Konwar will be the new Governor of Bihar replacing R L Bhatia.

May 16th, 2009 SHIMLA - Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal's son and sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Anurag Thakur has won the state's Hamirpur parliamentary constituency, a poll official said Saturday. Anurag Thakur defeated his nearest rival, Narinder Thakur of the Congress by 72,732 votes, state chief electoral officer Anil Khachi told IANS.

President Patil will unveil a plaque at the IISc to mark the end of the celebrations here Friday.

May 6th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a news report published in two parts in The Hindustan Times on May 5 and 6 under the title "Apartheid" alleging how dalit kids are being discriminated against in four districts - Jhabua, Sheopur, Katni and Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh. The report has also alleged that health workers in these districts avoid Dalit hamlets and examine women without touching them.
