Police officials arrested for killing a constable in Tripura

October 5th, 2009 AGARTALA - Five militants of the Isak-Muivah faction of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM), who had allegedly killed six of their colleagues, were detained while while they were crossing the Bangladesh border into Tripura, officials said Monday. A large cache of arms and ammunition, including five AK-series rifles and some grenades, as well as Bangladeshi currency were found with the terrorists, aged 21 to 24 years, who were detained late Sunday by troopers of the Border Security Force (BSF).

September 17th, 2009 AGARTALA - A 16-year-old boy was arrested with three US-made pistols and ammunition as authorities claimed to have foiled a terror strike planned during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations in Tripura, officials said Thursday. Based on specific intelligence inputs, security forces arrested Shiva Das from this Tripura capital late Wednesday and recovered three US-made pistols, five loaded magazines, and a large cache of other ammunition, police said.

September 16th, 2009 AGARTALA - A 16- year- old juvenile, who fled from custody with five other Bangladesh nationals, was arrested by Agartala Police on Wednesday. Police have recovered three American pistols and ammunition from him.

September 13th, 2009 KANPUR - A Railway Police Force (RPF) head constable, who threw a 14-year-old boy from a running train near Kurhni in Bihar last week, has been arrested after being identified by the victim. Shahabuddin, who lost his right leg in the incident, identified head constable Rameshwar Prasad during a test identification (IT) parade at the SKMCH on Saturday.

September 10th, 2009 AGARTALA - Paramilitary Assam Rifles troopers arrested three people and recovered fake Indian currency with a face value of Rs.350,000, officials said Thursday. A police spokesperson said that Assam Rifles troopers late Wednesday arrested three people while they were transacting the counterfeit notes of Rs.500 denomination at Kanchanpur in northern Tripura, 170 km north of here.

September 8th, 2009 AGARTALA - Fake currency with the nominal value of Rs.500,000 was seized from a Tripura village bordering Bangladesh and two men were arrested, officials said here Tuesday. The seizure and arrests were made during searches in Sobhapur village along the India-Bangladesh border, 60 km west of Agartala, Monday night by a joint team of Assam Rifles troopers and Tripura Police.

September 2nd, 2009 AGARTALA - A government employee succumbed to injuries after he was beaten by a former militant in a dispute over a mobile phone in Tripura, officials said Wednesday. "A former militant, Jugal Debbarma, 26, severely beat 27-year-old Sukhubasi Debbarma, an employee of the state power department in Takarjala in west Tripura Sunday," a police spokesman said.

July 11th, 2009 AGARTALA/GUWAHATI - The Tripura and Meghalaya governments have asked the Assam government to take action against the policemen who gunned down a truck driver and his assistant in Guwahati Thursday night after the truck hit their vehicle, officials said Saturday. "A personal security officer (PSO) of superintendent of police (CID) in Assam shot dead a truck driver and his assistant in Guwahati late Thursday night after the loaded truck hit the police official's car by mistake," said Tripura Director General of Police Pranay Sahaya.

April 3rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - Three people have been arrested here for killing a Delhi Police constable last month, officials said Friday. Kuldeep, 22, Sanjeev, 39, and Rajender, 30, were arrested late Thursday for the murder of Vijay Singh, who was posted as a constable in the Jahangirpuri police station.

February 1st, 2009 AGARTALA - Two men, one as old as 70 years, were killed by their own sons in two incidents of patricide in Tripura following family quarrels, the police said here Monday. A police spokesperson said Saptami Tripura, 70, and Budhirai Debbarma, 41, a teacher, were hacked to death by their sons late Sunday in south and west Tripura districts respectively.

January 25th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - A paramilitary trooper fired indiscriminately at his colleagues, killing one at the spot and injuring three others, and then shot himself dead in an Orissa steel plant Monday, the police said. Constable Naresh Kumar of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) opened fire from his Service rifle at the Rourkela Steel Plant in Rourkela, some 500 km from here, Superintendent of Police S.K.

January 21st, 2009 AGARTALA - A Tripura police official has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a fake international currency racket, officials Thursday said. 'The Tripura and Mizoram police, along with other special police wings of the northeastern states, have been probing to find out the details about the racket,' said Anish Prasad, Tripura's Dhalai district police chief.

January 18th, 2009 AGARTALA - At least two civilians were killed and five other people, including a para-military trooper, were injured when Border Security Force (BSF) personnel opened fire after a clash with a mob in Tripura Monday, the police said. The violence erupted at Boxanagar village, 60 km west of Tripura capital Agartala, when BSF troopers went to the village bordering Bangladesh to catch 'ganja' (hemp) smugglers.

January 13th, 2009 RAIPUR - Two policemen were killed and a woman constable was missing in Chhattisgarh after Leftist guerrillas attacked a police team Wednesday, officials said. According to the police, the insurgents attacked the police team in a thickly forested area of Pakhanjoor, some 220 km south of here.
