Police: Man tried scam after crash killed 4 teens

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Authorities say a Michigan man tried get a business owner to give him a free lawn mower by pretending to be the father of a girl killed in a crash.

David Randazzo of Roseville has been charged with a false pretenses count.

Four youths ages 15 to 19 were killed March 16 when their car was crushed by a van in Roseville, near Detroit. Police say the van driver’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, and she has been charged with murder.

Clinton Township police Detective Capt. Richard Maierle says 53-year-old Randazzo tried to get the mower from a lawn equipment business. The owner called police because he knew a fund for the victims’ families had been set up.

A message was left Thursday at a telephone listing for Randazzo.
