Police bust Maoist hideout in Jharkhand

April 7th, 2009 RANCHI - Two Maoist rebels were killed in a gunbattle with security personnel in Jharkhand's Gumla district Tuesday, police said. According to police, the gunbattle between security forces and Maoist rebels belonging to the People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) took place in Sursang jungle, which comes under the Kamdera police station in Gumla district, some 140 km from Ranchi.

March 18th, 2009 RANCHI - A constable was killed by Maoist rebels in Jharkhand's Giridih district, police said Wednesday. On a tip off, security personnel raided a Maoist hideout near Bhaliaahi village of Giridih district, 190 km from here, Tuesday night.

March 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Two Maoist rebels were killed after a two-hour-long shootout with police in Palamau district of Jharkhand Sunday, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a hideout of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) near Barijharia village under Chainpur police station in Palamau district, 180 km from the state capital, and asked the rebels to surrender.

March 10th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist rebel, who was accused of killing a former minister and many security personnel, was killed on the outskirts of Ranchi in Jharkhand Monday, the police said. Rajesh Toppo, an area commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), was killed in a gun battle near Karkari river under Tamar block of Ranchi.

March 1st, 2009 RANCHI - Suspected Maoist guerrillas blew up a panchayat community building in Jharkhand, the police said Saturday. According to the police, more than 30 activists of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Friday night blew up the building in Mahdand village of Palamau district, around 190 km from here, by using detonators.

February 5th, 2009 RANCHI - Five police personnel were injured in a landmine blast by the Maoist rebels in Jharkhand Friday, a police officer said. When the five cops were returning to the Bundu police station, rebels belonging to the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) detonated a landmine near a bridge situated under the Bundu block, around 70 km from here.

February 3rd, 2009 RANCHI - A top Maoist rebel, who escaped from an Andhra Pradesh jail in 1988, was arrested Wednesday in Jharkhand's Bokaro district, the police said. Mohammad Hussain, who operated under different names like Shankar Ramakant and Sagar, was caught by the police in Bokaro on a tip-off, but officials declined to reveal the exact location of his arrest.

More than 50 rebels belonging to Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) blew up the transmission tower of Airtel situated in Garo village of Chatra district, around 190 km from here, Sunday midnight.

January 26th, 2009 RANCHI - Six Maoist rebels including an 'area commander' were arrested Tuesday in Gumla district of Jharkhand, police said. According to police, four Maoist rebels were arrested from the jungle area under Palkot police station of Gumla district, 140 km from Ranchi.

January 25th, 2009 RANCHI - On the 60th Republic Day, Maoist rebels hoisted black flags in some parts of Jharkhand, police sources said Monday. According to police sources, black flags were hoisted by Maoist rebels in Palamau, Chatra, Chaibasa and in some other parts of the state.

January 19th, 2009 RANCHI - Four rebels of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were arrested from two places in Jharkhand Tuesday, the police said. According to the police, three Maoist rebels including the sub zonal commander of CPI-Maoist, Nitish Yadav was arrested from the Palamau district, some 190 km from Ranchi Tuesday.

January 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Six security personnel were killed in a landmine blast by Maoist rebels while seven guerrillas were arrested in a separate incident in Jharkhand Saturday, a police officer said. The landmine was detonated Saturday afternoon by Maoist rebels between Manika and Patki on the national highway in Latehar district, about 140 km from here.
