PML-N asks govt. to try Musharraf for Bhutto’s assassination

August 31st, 2009 RAWALPINDI - In order to remove the ambiguity in the Benazir Bhutto murder case, Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency, in association with other intelligence agencies, is planning to reconstruct the scene of late Pakistan prime minister's assassination. The Daily Times quoted official sources as saying that a new joint investigation team would reconstruct the crime scene because the original crime scene had not been preserved properly.

August 28th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Attorney General Latif Khosa has said that the masterminds of the October, 2007 Karsaz bombing in Karachi may also have been involved in former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination. Interacting with media persons after meeting the two members of the UN commission probing Bhutto's assassination, Khosa said the commission was doing a 'wonderful job' and it has a mandate to complete the probe within six months.

August 6th, 2009 KARACHI - A United Nations (UN) commission probing the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto intends to meet former President Pervez Musharraf as part of investigations into the case, the Foreign Office (FO) has said. FO spokesman Abdul Basit told reporters that he was unaware if the UN team had already approached Musharraf.

August 1st, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf may be heading former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's way as far as taking refuge outside the country is concerned. Saudi Arabia's Ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Aziz Bin Ibrahim said that his country would consider giving political asylum to Musharraf if he asks for it, The Daily Times reports.

July 30th, 2009 RAWALPINDI - The protocol officer of late Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto has filed a court petition seeking registration of a criminal case against former President Pervez Musharraf, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and former Punjab chief minister Pervaiz Elahi for planning a "conspiracy that culminated in the assassination of Bhutto". Advocate Chaudhry Mehmood Aslam, who claimed he had been Benazir's protocol officer from 1986 to 2007, also named former Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Ejaz Hussain Shah, Babar Awan and others in his petition, the Daily Times reports.

July 27th, 2009 LAHORE - Former president Pervez Musharraf has said that his lectures were aimed at removing misconceptions about the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the country's military in the international community. Musharraf said he would visit the country when he felt necessary, adding that he did not fear returning home.

July 21st, 2009 LONDON - Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has rebuffed aspersions regarding his involvement in former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination. Addressing a seminar at the Committee House of the British Parliament here, Musharraf rejected allegations that he did not provide a fool-proof security to the former premier.

July 18th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Nothing substantial should be expected from the UN Commission inquiry into the assassination of former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, as it is learnt that the Commission would not be revealing the names of the perpetrators. Addressing a news conference here, the head of the commission, Heraldo Munoz clarified that the Commission's report would not mention any names of perpetrators of the assassination as its mandate was just to examine the facts and circumstances in which the killing was carried out.

July 18th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Arresting federal ministers Babar Awan and Rehman Malik could lead to the masterminds of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader Chaudhury Aslam has said. Aslam said he has already written a letter to the UN Commission probing the assassination asking it to arrest the ministers.

June 24th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - With the United Nations (UN) set to start investigations into the assassination of the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto from next month, Pakistan has been asked to provide English translations of Urdu documents of the probe conducted so far. The UN subcommission, which would be probing the assassination of the former premier for six months, has asked Islamabad to send two copies of the investigation report prepared by Pakistan intelligence agencies.
