People not registering domestic helps in Delhi: Police chief

September 14th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The cellphone of slain teenager Aarushi Talwar, missing for over a year since her mysterious killing in her parents' Noida flat, has been found by Delhi Police and handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the murder, police said Monday. "Aarushi's cellphone was recovered by Delhi Police's Crime Branch and handed over to the CBI," Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat said.

July 4th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Saturday launched a skill development programme to train about 100,000 domestic workers here in a variety of subjects ranging from personal hygiene to first-aid. The initiative would also educate such workers about intra-personal communication skills, components of urban meals, management of urban kitchens, serving cooked food in formal environment and maintaining kitchen gardens.

July 3rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Union Government has decided to bring cases of sexual harassment of domestic helps within the scope of proposed law to prevent exploitation of woman at work places. Replying to a question in Lok Sabha today, Union Minister for Woman and Child Development Krishna Tirath said the proposed law would also deal with the incidents against Dalit women who are brought to cities to work as domestic help.

June 16th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A group of robbers Tuesday barged into a south Delhi home, tied its occupants - a 70-year-old man, his wife, 65, and two domestic helps - with ropes and decamped with Rs.800,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs.1 million, police said. The robbers, one of them masked, scaled the walls of Bala Ram's Chhattarpur house around 2 a.m., police said, adding that they suspect an insider's hand behind the heist as the robbers "knew the house in and out".

June 2nd, 2009 NEW DELHI - Four men, who allegedly abducted a 15-year-old girl from north Delhi in broad daylight Tuesday, were detained in Sonepat town in Haryana and brought back here along with the girl, police said. The police control room in Delhi received a call Tuesday afternoon from a woman that four men in a Maruti 800 car, bearing a Haryana vehicle registration number, had abducted her niece and fled.
