One killed, many injured in Ghaziabad group clash

September 21st, 2009 GHAZIABAD - Two people were killed and one was seriously injured on National Highway-24 (NH-24) near Shipra Sun City in Ghaziabad early Monday when a speeding tourist bus hit them, police said. The three - identified as Janak Sharma, 24, Hari Khatri, 27, and Reshmi Thapa, 23 - were returning home after their night shift at a mall in Indirapuram area around 2.30 a.m.

September 11th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - A woman and her son were killed when the roof of their house in Loni area here collapsed in heavy rains early Friday, police said. Rachna and Krish died when the roof of the first floor fell, leading to a collapse of the ceiling of their ground floor room about 3 a.m., police said.

July 4th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - At least seven persons, including a driver and a guard, were injured when a Delhi-bound passenger train hit a goods train loaded with petrol near the Ghaziabad railway station on Saturday. A railway official the 310 Ambala Saharanpur Nizammuddin passenger train was on its way to the Nizammuddin railway station in Delhi when the accident took place at around 11.50 p.m.

July 4th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - Barely 12 hours after Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee stressed safety measures in her rail budget, a passenger train collided with a static goods train in Ghaziabad late Friday. Twelve people were injured in the accident, officials said Saturday.

July 2nd, 2009 MYSORE - Two persons were killed and three others injured, as two communities armed with batons and weapons clashed over an alleged desecration of a religious school in Mysore district of Karnataka on Thursday. According to the police, they had to resort to lathi-charge and use teargas shells to disperse the crowd, as the news about the desecration angered members of one community, who came out with weapons and batons onto the streets and had a scuffle with members of another community.

June 20th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - A man suspected of involvement in the Frontier Mail blast in 1997 committed suicide by hanging himself in his prison cell in Ghaziabad, police said Saturday. The death occurred Friday in the Dasna jail in Ghaziabad where Shakeel was lodged after he was convicted by a Delhi court to 10 years' imprisonment in another terror related case in 1998.

May 28th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - Police in Ghaziabad Thursday said they have gunned down a "dreaded criminal", who allegedly killed four women three years ago and had escaped from a lockup. Manoj Kumar, "wanted in over a dozen cases including robbery and murders", was killed in a shootout with police at Pilakhuwa town in this Uttar Pradesh district, Superintendent of Police K.K.

March 11th, 2009 UJJAIN - One person was killed and 37 people including three police officers were injured in a communal clash in a Madhya Pradesh town Tuesday, police said. Indefinite curfew was imposed in Mahidpura sub-district following the clash which erupted after police stopped members of a Muslim group, returning from a religious procession, from going towards the area where Hindus were holding a religious programme, police said.

Residents of Ghaziabad set on fire the police post outside the New Bus Stand, burnt two police vehicles and 12 buses in the evening to protest the killing of the two men, said Superintendent of Police (traffic) Anil Kumar.

February 7th, 2009 RANCHI - At least seven undertrial prisoners were injured in a clash between two criminal groups in Dhanbad jail Sunday, police said. Prisoners Sanjay Mahto and Diwakar Mahto, who were collecting weekly extortion of Rs.500 to Rs.1,000 from each prisoner, thrashed three other prisoners which led to the clash.
