Child burned in Mexico fire dies at Ohio hospital

CINCINNATI — Officials at an Ohio hospital say a 3-year-old girl being treated for injuries sustained in a fire at a day care center in Mexico has died.

Officials at Cincinnati’s Shriners Hospital for Children say the 3-year-old girl died Friday afternoon.

Hospital spokeswoman Louise Hoelker (HOHL’kur) says the girl was transferred to the hospital Thursday night from Mexico.

The June 5 fire in a day care center in Hermosillo killed 47 children.

Two other 3-year-old girls injured in the fire remain at the pediatric burn hospital. One admitted Friday is in serious condition.

The other girl was admitted to the hospital June 12 in critical condition, but has been upgraded to fair condition.

Several other children injured in the fire are at a Shriners hospital in Sacramento, Calif.
