Officials: 3 die gas tank explosion in Arkansas

SEARCY, Ark. — Emergency management officials say a gas tank explosion in north-central Arkansas has killed three contract workers.

Tommy Jackson, a spokesman with the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management, says the three workers were contracted to clean a storage tank at the facility south of Searcy in rural White County.

Jackson says the workers were in the tank when something inside ignited, causing the explosion.

Jackson says there are no other injuries reported at the site. He says he’s not sure who owns the facility.

(This version CORRECTS that explosion occurred in north-cental Arkansas.)
