NYPD: Pedestrian collision ends in fatal stabbing

NEW YORK — Authorities say that an Army veteran killed someone who had bumped into him on a New York sidewalk and that the suspect was later found dead in Philadelphia.

A law enforcement official said Wednesday that Philadelphia officials notified New York police the night before that the suspect was found dead. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the investigation continues.

A security video shows the suspect and victim walking toward each other and bumping shoulders Sunday.

The victim, 20-year-old Christopher Gutierrez of Manhattan, assumes a fight-like stance, and the suspect makes a jabbing motion. Then the dying victim slumps to the post office steps, and the suspect walks away.

NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly has identified the suspect as 28-year-old veteran Sirmone McCaulla.
