Candidate Christie won’t end loan to ex-colleague

RINGWOOD, N.J. — The Republican challenger in the New Jersey governor’s race says he won’t ask a federal prosecutor to end the mortgage loan he took out for her even if he is elected governor.

Chris Christie says Michele Brown would have to decide whether to repay the $46,000 loan early.

Christie loaned Brown the money in 2007 while he was her supervisor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office after Brown’s husband lost his job.

Christie says Brown is fulfilling her end of the deal by making $500 monthly payments.

Democrats have questioned the ongoing financial relationship between the GOP gubernatorial candidate and the state’s No. 2 federal prosecutor, but Christie says he sees no problem and plans to continue the arrangement.
