Tropical depression forms in the Pacific

MIAMI — A tropical depression has formed out in the Pacific Ocean.

The depression has maximum sustained winds near 35 mph (55 kph) Tuesday night. But it’s expected to strengthen and become a tropical storm on Wednesday.

The depression is centered about 625 miles (1,005 kilometers) southwest of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula and moving northwest near 9 mph (14 kph).
