NASCAR: Mayfield drug test process continues

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — NASCAR says it’s still analyzing Jeremy Mayfield’s latest drug test.

NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston says “the process” continues and declined further comment.

Mayfield attorney John Buric says he did not expect to get the results Friday, adding he’s “never too surprised when things take time.”

NASCAR said Mayfield tested positive for methamphetamine in a May 1 random test. He was suspended indefinitely May 9, but a federal judge last week issued an injunction that allows Mayfield to return to competition. NASCAR this week asked the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn the injunction and uphold Mayfield’s suspension.

The 40-year-old driver did not enter last week’s race at Daytona or Saturday’s event at Chicagoland Speedway.
