Mukherjee to lay foundation of 1,000-MW project at Tuticorin

October 10th, 2009 CHENNAI - The state-run Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited (NLC) has sought the central government's permission to commission a 250-MW power project in Rajasthan, a company official said. The company already has a mandate to build two 125 MW project at Barsingsar village in Rajasthan.

September 9th, 2009 Kolkata, Sept 8 (IBNS) SOS Children’s Villages of India along with Coca-Cola India today announced the completion of work of the rainwater harvesting project (RWH) at SOS Children’s Village at Bidhan Nagar in Kolkata and dedicated it to the children of the Village and the local community. The RWH project has the potential to harvest one crore litre of rainwater annually at normal rainfall.

August 20th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee assured visiting Nepalese Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal of India's commitment to provide economic assistance for developmental projects in Nepal. July 19th, 2009 KOLKATA - Union Finance Minister and West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee (WBPCC) President Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday ruled out any possibility of further division of West Bengal. The Rs.1,200-crore project, entirely funded by the central government, was sanctioned Rs.500 crore last fiscal.

July 6th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The government will allocate Rs.100 crore for about 1,000 villages with higher population of scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said while presenting the budget for 2009-10 in parliament Monday. The scheme, currently on a pilot basis, will be extended in the coming years, he said.

July 2nd, 2009 CHENNAI - The city-based Coastal Energen Private Limited Thursday announced that 16 bank consortium and financial institutions have agreed to lend it Rs.3,450 crore (Rs.34.5 billion) to set up 1,200 thermal power station at Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. The 15-year loan will carry an interest of 12 percent, said the company in a statement issued Thursday.

February 15th, 2009 NEW DELHI - In order to empower panchayats and have transparent and efficient accountability systems, the government has proposed to expand the Panchayat Empowerment and Accountability Incentive Scheme (PEAIS) by making suitable allocations. 'EAIS is an existing scheme under the central sector plan which has been recognized as a powerful instrument to incentivise states to devolve funds, functions and functionaries and set up an institutional framework for such devolution,' said External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee while presenting the interim budget in Lok Sabha Monday.

February 15th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The government has made a provision of Rs.1 billion (Rs.100 crore) in the interim budget for 2009-10 for its proposed 'unique identification' project. The government had last month notified the setting up of the project, Unique Identification Authority of India, which will give a unique number to every citizen.
