More people want chats with SC gov after affair

GREER, S.C. — More people than usual are requesting face-to-face chats with Gov. Mark Sanford following his confession of an extramarital affair with an Argentine woman.

Sanford usually holds five-minute meetings once a month with any constituents who want to talk to him. His meetings Tuesday afternoon at his Statehouse office will be the first since he returned last month from a mysterious disappearance and revealed he had been in Argentina visiting his mistress.

Sanford spokesman Joel Sawyer says the governor has appointments with 19 people and 11 more couldn’t be fit into the schedule. Sawyer says callers weren’t asked why they wanted to chat.

He says the governor typically makes 15 appointments, though there have been as few as 10 and as many as 30.
