Militants killed three BSF jawans in Manipur

October 4th, 2009 IMPHAL - Five separatist guerrillas were killed and a police commando injured in a gun battle between the militants and security personnel in Manipur, an official said Sunday. A police spokesperson said the shootout took place late Saturday at Leimaram village, about 30 km south of Imphal, between militants of the outlawed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and a joint team of army soldiers and police commandos.

September 28th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Three militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Tral, south Kashmir on Monday. According to reports, two killed militants belong to the Lashkar.

September 28th, 2009 SRINAGAR - The seven-hour long encounter in Pulwama district of south Kashmir has ended today. Three Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants and an elderly woman were killed in an encounter with security forces.

September 12th, 2009 IMPHAL - Four paramilitary troopers were killed and six injured, two of them critically, in Manipur Saturday after an ambush by separatists with rocket launchers, officials said. A police spokesperson said heavily armed militants from the People's Liberation Army (PLA) opened indiscriminate fire on a convoy of the India Reserve Battalion (IRB) near Oksu village, 20 km east of state capital Imphal, around mid-day.

Heavily armed militants belonging to the People's Liberation Army (PLA) opened indiscriminate fire on a convoy of the Border Security Force (BSF) near village Oksu, 20 km east of Imphal, a police spokesperson said.

September 8th, 2009 IMPHAL - At least four Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Manipur's Ukhrul district. According to sources, the incident occurred last night when the personnel of 12th Maratha Light Infantry were patrolling Mokot hilly area in the district.

August 31st, 2009 SRINAGAR - At least two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed and four others injured in two separate militant strikes in Srinagar on Monday. In a first incident, militants opened indiscriminate firing in Lal Chowk area, killing two CRPF jawans.

July 21st, 2009 SENAPATI - A 48-hour shutdown against the Central Government's decision to deploy additional forces has crippled life in five hill districts of Manipur. The shutdown called by the United Naga Council (UNC) is supported by some tribal organisations.

July 20th, 2009 IMPHAL - Police commandos killed three suspected militants of the Kangleipak Communist Party -Military Council (KCP-MC) in Bishenpur district of Manipur. Acting on a tip off, the commandoes, attached to Bishenpur police station, raided Chingnung Khul area, about 45 km from state capital Imphal.

June 15th, 2009 IMPHAL - Hundreds of panic stricken migrant workers have started fleeing Manipur following frequent militant attacks on daily wage earners who don't belong to the state even as authorities began herding labourers into government relief camps, officials here said Monday. A police spokesperson said up to 200 migrant workers from West Bengal and Bihar had left Manipur over the weekend fearing fresh attacks on non-Manipuri workers.

June 12th, 2009 IMPHAL - Three migrant workers were killed and as many injured in an attack by militants in Manipur, police said Friday. A group of heavily armed militants attacked the daily wage earners late Thursday outside the Agriculture University complex on the outskirts of capital Imphal.

March 16th, 2009 IMPHAL - Two militants of the People's United Liberation Front (PULF) have been shot down in an encounter with the police in the Imphal East district in Manipur. The local police informed on Monday that the commandos, who were patrolling the Keirao area in the district on Sunday, were been attacked by militants.

March 7th, 2009 IMPHAL - Four Muslim separatists were killed in a gunbattle with security forces on the outskirts of Manipur's capital Imphal early Saturday, officials said. A police spokesman said a joint team of police commandos and paramilitary Assam Rifles troopers led a gunbattle with a group of militants belonging to the outlawed People's United Liberation Front (PULF) near Irilbung village, about 15 km east of Imphal.

March 1st, 2009 GUWAHATI - Three guerrillas were killed in separate shooutouts with security forces in Manipur, as 43 militants surrendered before authorities in the adjoining state of Assam, officials Saturday said. A police spokesman said two militants of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) were killed in a gun battle with troopers of the paramilitary Assam Rifles late Friday near village Lamlong, about 20 km east of Manipur's capital Imphal.
