Crews to rebuild collapsed I-75 overpass in Mich.

HAZEL PARK, Mich. — Crews plan to begin rebuilding an overpass on Interstate 75 north of Detroit that was destroyed during a tanker explosion this summer that involved three vehicles.

Officials with the Michigan Department of Transportation tell the Detroit Free Press that work could start Monday on an $11.8-million project to replace the bridge, which is expected to open this winter.

Police have given a speeding citation and a $150 fine to a motorist they say caused the July 15 crash that also involved a fuel tanker and a semi-truck.

The state has filed claims with insurance carriers for all three vehicles involved in the explosion to recoup up to $3.4 million in repair and emergency response costs.
