America’s horse Alysheba memorialized in Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. — America’s Horse had been back in America less than six months before a fatal accident in his stall. But Alysheba is being remembered Wednesday as a popular champion.

The Hall of Champions at the Kentucky Horse Park where Alysheba spent his final days is hosting a memorial service for the former Kentucky Derby and Breeders’ Cup Classic winner.

Alysheba spent nine years in Saudi Arabia before moving to the park as a gift to the American people from King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia.

He retired as racing’s all-time money winner with over $6.6 million in earnings from 11 victories in 26 starts. Hall of Fame jockey Chris McCarron says Alysheba was the most talented horse he ever rode.

The public is invited to attend the service beginning at 3:30 p.m EDT.
