Maoists damage mobile tower control room in Orissa

October 14th, 2009 PATNA - Maoists blew up a tower of a private telecom firm and torched a truck in Bihar's Sheohar District last night. According to officials, around 45 to 50 Maoists blew up the Airtel tower at Brindaban Bazar and asked villagers to stay at home.

September 11th, 2009 SUNDERGARH - Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik promised to take strict action against the Maoists who blew up at least four government buildings, a community centre and a mobile tower at Kalta village in Sundergarh district on Thursday. Talking to reporters here, Patnaik said, "We will certainly deal with them and everyone should remember that these Naxals are anti-national criminals and they should not be tolerated in any civilised society where they are breaking the most essential and critical laws of our country." The attack was carried out during the 24-hour shutdown called by the Maoists demanding release of 30 cadres arrested earlier.

September 5th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Maoist guerrillas Saturday blew up a mobile phone tower in Malkangiri district of Orissa, police said. A large number of armed rebels came to MV-74 village in Malkanagiri and blew up the mobile tower early Saturday.

August 26th, 2009 GAYA - Maoists blew up two mobile towers in Bihar's Gaya district as the 48-hour shutdown in five states called by them ended on Tuesday night. According to sources, around 400 Maoists detonated dynamites to blow up the towers at Guraru and at Gurua in Gaya.

August 24th, 2009 RANCHI - Maoists blew up a railway track in Latehar and a mobile phone tower in Palamau district in Jharkhand as they began their 48-hour shutdown in five state on Monday. According to the police, about 20 left-wing ultras blew up the railway tracks between Kumundi and Hehegada railway station in Latehar district, around 140 km from Ranchi, late on Sunday night.

August 21st, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Maoist rebels have threatened to blow up the residence of Orissa Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadei and kill his son, police said Friday. The letter was received at the office of Orissa Mining Corporation at Jajpur Thursday.

August 12th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - At least three Maoists were killed Wednesday in a gunfight with police in Orissa's Rayagada district, officials said. A joint team of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh police fatally shot the militants in a forested area under Chandili police station, about 45 km from the district headquarter of Rayagada, Ashish Kumar Singh, district superintendent of police, told IANS.

January 21st, 2009 PATNA - Protesting the arrest and alleged torture of their top leaders, Maoist rebels Thursday enforced a 24-hour strike, setting ablaze 11 trucks and blasting a mobile telephone signal tower in Bihar, police said. Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters) Neelmani said armed Maoists forcibly stopped the 11 trucks and set them ablaze in Rohtas, about 150 km from here.
