Maoist rebel killed in gun battle in Jharkhand

October 5th, 2009 RANCHI - Police here Monday claimed to have arrested a woman Maoist commander in the Jharkhand capital. The woman rebel, whose identity the police did not disclose immediately, was arrested from a colony situated under Sukhdeonagar police station of Ranchi.

September 28th, 2009 RANCHI - Four guerrillas were killed by members of another Maoist group in Gumla district of Jharkhand Monday, police said. A gun battle between two groups of Maoist rebels took place at Salkaya jungle of Gumla, about 160 km from here.

September 8th, 2009 RANCHI - Three Maoist rebels, including a senior commander, were arrested after a gun battle lasting over two and a half hours on the outskirts of Ranchi Tuesday, police said. According to police, three members of the Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC), including commander Raj Kumar Ganju, were arrested from Churugarha village, around 55 km from Ranchi.

September 3rd, 2009 RANCHI - Seven Maoist rebels were arrested after a nearly two-hour long gun battle with security personnel in Jharkhand's Garwah district Thursday evening, police said. The arrested rebels belong to Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a breakaway group of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), according to police.

July 22nd, 2009 RANCHI - Three training camps of Maoist guerrillas were destroyed in a police action in Simdega district of Jharkhand Wednesday. Rifles and explosives were recovered from the camps, police said.

June 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Four policemen were killed in a nearly two-hour-long gun battle with Maoist rebels in Jharkhand's Palamau district Tuesday afternoon, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a Maoist hideout near Baherakhad village in Palamau, 180 km from the state capital.

June 12th, 2009 RANCHI - Eleven policemen were killed in separate Maoist attacks in Bokaro district of Jharkhand Friday, police said. According to police, Maoists attacked a State Bank of India (SBI) branch near Fusro market of Bokaro town Friday afternoon, killing two personnel of the state police.

June 11th, 2009 RANCHI - One Maoist rebel was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Palamau district of Jharkhand Thursday morning, police said. According to the police, the gun battle took place near Semra village of Palamau district which is around 220 Km from Ranchi.

May 31st, 2009 RAIPUR - The Chhattisgarh Police Sunday gunned down a Maoist commander in a gun battle in the state's northern forested stretch. Officials said a police search squad had killed Ramesh Barua alias Mukesh in a gun battle in a thickly forested area of Surguja district, 400 km from here.

April 9th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist commander was killed in a gun battle with a rival group while a civilian was killed and four security personnel were injured in a bomb blast in Jharkhand, police said Thursday. Krishna Yadav, a zonal commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist, was killed by a rival Maoist group, Jharkhand Prastuti Committee, in Hazaribagh district Thursday.

March 18th, 2009 RANCHI - A constable was killed by Maoist rebels in Jharkhand's Giridih district, police said Wednesday. On a tip off, security personnel raided a Maoist hideout near Bhaliaahi village of Giridih district, 190 km from here, Tuesday night.

March 10th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist rebel, who was accused of killing a former minister and many security personnel, was killed on the outskirts of Ranchi in Jharkhand Monday, the police said. Rajesh Toppo, an area commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), was killed in a gun battle near Karkari river under Tamar block of Ranchi.

February 24th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist rebel cooling his heels in Chatra jail of Jharkhand has written the ongoing secondary school examinations, a police officer said Monday. A self-styled 'area commander' of outlawed group Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), Kuldeep Ganju desired to take the 2009 Class 10 examination conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council.

February 3rd, 2009 RANCHI - A top Maoist rebel, who escaped from an Andhra Pradesh jail in 1988, was arrested Wednesday in Jharkhand's Bokaro district, the police said. Mohammad Hussain, who operated under different names like Shankar Ramakant and Sagar, was caught by the police in Bokaro on a tip-off, but officials declined to reveal the exact location of his arrest.

January 19th, 2009 RANCHI - Four rebels of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) were arrested from two places in Jharkhand Tuesday, the police said. According to the police, three Maoist rebels including the sub zonal commander of CPI-Maoist, Nitish Yadav was arrested from the Palamau district, some 190 km from Ranchi Tuesday.
