Maoist commander, six others escape from Jharkhand court

October 5th, 2009 RANCHI - Police here Monday claimed to have arrested a woman Maoist commander in the Jharkhand capital. The woman rebel, whose identity the police did not disclose immediately, was arrested from a colony situated under Sukhdeonagar police station of Ranchi.

According to police, three members of the Jharkhand Prastuti Committee (JPC), including commander Raj Kumar Ganju, were arrested from Churugarha village, around 55 km from Ranchi.

According to police, around 8 to 10 Maoist rebels were holding a meeting near Orjha village of Dumka district, which is around 400 km from Ranchi.

June 24th, 2009 RANCHI - Maoist guerrillas set ablaze a truck laden with iron ore in Khuti district of Jharkhand, police said Wednesday. Around 10 rebels intercepted the truck near Bhuiadih village in Khuti, 80 km from state capital Ranchi, and set it on fire late Tuesday night.

June 11th, 2009 RANCHI - One Maoist rebel was killed in a gun battle with security forces in Palamau district of Jharkhand Thursday morning, police said. According to the police, the gun battle took place near Semra village of Palamau district which is around 220 Km from Ranchi.

May 31st, 2009 RAIPUR - The Chhattisgarh Police Sunday gunned down a Maoist commander in a gun battle in the state's northern forested stretch. Officials said a police search squad had killed Ramesh Barua alias Mukesh in a gun battle in a thickly forested area of Surguja district, 400 km from here.

April 9th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist commander was killed in a gun battle with a rival group while a civilian was killed and four security personnel were injured in a bomb blast in Jharkhand, police said Thursday. March 17th, 2009 RANCHI - Six villagers have been abducted in Jharkhand's Latehar district as a fallout of the rivalry between two Maoist groups, police said Tuesday. Over 20 members of the Tritiya Prastuti Committee (TPC) raided Lawagarh village in Latehar Monday and abducted six people, who are relatives of two commanders of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), a police official said.

March 16th, 2009 RANCHI - Two Maoist rebels were killed after a two-hour-long shootout with police in Palamau district of Jharkhand Sunday, police said. Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a hideout of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) near Barijharia village under Chainpur police station in Palamau district, 180 km from the state capital, and asked the rebels to surrender.

February 2nd, 2009 RANCHI - Three Maoist rebels, including a commander, were arrested in Jharkhand Tuesday, the police said. Following a tip-off, the rebels belonging to People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) were arrested from the Bachau jungle, around 60 km from here.
