Seventy two hours of their search and nab operation, the army has busted a terrorist hideout but failed to nab the militants who managed to flee under the cover of fire.

October 7th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir gunned down at least four militants, including a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander in two separate gun battles on Wednesday. According to the police, in one of the encounters in the Ladoo forests region near Pampore town, 30 kilometres off Srinagar, one militant was killed and three security personnel were injured in a grenade attack.

October 7th, 2009 MUMBAI - Applauding the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir security forces' to counter terror from across the border, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Wednesday said state police were putting an all out effort to curb infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC). Addressing the media here, Chidambaram said, "Kashmir police is doing a commendable job and are putting all efforts to curb infiltration along the LoC." Speaking about the ongoing operation to flush out nine militants in forests near the Pampore region of the state, he said, "Jammu and Kashmir police is now prepared to be the frontline of the state's security and they are taking the lead to fight these terrorists." He also dismissed a report that Taliban militants are being pushed into Jammu and Kashmir to foment terror, saying that security forces were ready to deal with any situation.

October 7th, 2009 SRINAGAR - The security forces continued the hunt for around 8 to 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba militants hiding in the Noor Takia forests of Pampore in Pulwama region of Jammu and Kashmir state on Wednesday. Top Lashkar commanders, including Rehman Bhai, are believed to be hiding in the 5-kilometre stretch in the forests.

A combing and search operation was launched by the Rashtriya Rifle troops and Special Task Force of Police in Tagan Dhar area, which is 50 km from Jammu, police said.
