Major train accident averted in West Bengal

October 7th, 2009 KOLKATA - A mother who gave birth on a train jumped off it as the newborn slipped through the toilet pipe and fell on the tracks in West Bengal, a railway official said Wednesday. Both the mother and baby are fine.

February 17th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Several trains on the busy Howrah-Chennai route were cancelled or diverted Wednesday after at least 25 wagons of a goods train that started from Paradip port in Orissa derailed near the border with West Bengal. The goods train, carrying coal from Paradip to Raigarh in Chhattisgarh, derailed near the Narayangarh station in West Bengal, 40 km from the border.
