August 17th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan Monday urged the central government to reimburse expenses incurred by the state in tackling terrorism, saying that the state government "cannot alone mobilize resources to fight terrorism". "The state government alone cannot mobilize the resources to fight this menace of terrorism," Chouhan said at the chief ministers' conference on internal security which Prime Minister Manmohan Singh convened Monday in New Delhi.

August 3rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - Both houses of parliament were adjourned Monday with noisy protests over the government's plan to set up a separate development authority for the drought-hit Bundelkhand region that spans Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. The Left parties, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) joined hands to oppose the Congress move to set up a separate Bundelkhand Development Authority for the backward region.

April 1st, 2009 DAHOD - The Gujarat police have intensified patrolling on a highway bordering Madhya Pradesh following reports of a number of make-shift country liquor vends coming up in the neighbouring state. The police suspect that before the polls, a lot of liquor is being smuggled from Madhya Pradesh to Gujarat, a state under prohibition.

February 10th, 2009 BHOPAL - Candidates from the entire country would now be eligible to appear for examinations conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Public service Commission (MPPSC) or other bodies for state government jobs, an official source said Wednesday. The state cabinet Tuesday decided that passing higher secondary or graduation from Madhya Pradesh would not be a criteria for recruitment through the MPPSC.

January 14th, 2009 BHOPAL - Two police constables accused of beating a tribal to death in Madhya Pradesh have been suspended and booked for murder, the police said Thursday. 'The incident occurred late Wednesday evening in Jhabua town when the constables, Kartar Singh and Ishwarlal, who were allegedly in an inebriated state, picked up a fight with a tribal Kallu Thanwaria Medha, 40, who too was under influence of alcohol and beat him till he fell unconscious.

December 28th, 2008 LUCKNOW - Three people were arrested in Allahabad district of Uttar Pradesh Monday for smuggling in explosives from Madhya Pradesh. A huge cache of explosives was recovered from them, police said.
