London court accepts German heiress’ prenuptial

LONDON — A London appeal court has ruled that a prenuptial agreement drawn up by a German heiress and her former husband should be taking into account by courts when they divide up their assets.

Lord Justice Mathew Thorpe ruled Thursday that the contract drawn up by heiress Katrin Radmacher and her French husband Nicolas Granatino when they married in 1998 should affect their divorce settlement.

A lower court had granted Granatino a settlement worth 5.6 million pounds ($9.2 million). The Court of Appeal overturned that ruling, giving Granatino a lump sum of 1 million pounds ($1.6 million) plus another 2.2 million-pound ($3.6 million) loan for a home that will have to be returned when the couple’s two daughters grow up.
