May 18th, 2009 WASHINGTON - India's grand old marathon man Ashis Roy has completed his 90th marathon, finishing the Delaware Marathon in Wilmington in a time of six hours and 32 minutes on a chilly rain swept morning. Going up and down a hilly course in two loops, Roy - at 76 the oldest of 600 participants - took nine minutes more to finish the 26-mile run Sunday than he did in the Potomac River Run Marathon in Alexandria two weeks ago.

May 4th, 2009 WASHINGTON - India's grand old marathon man Ashis Roy has completed his 89th marathon, finishing the Potomac River Run Marathon here in a time of six hours and 23 minutes on a rain-swept morning. Roy, 76, was the only one of the three participants in the 70-79 age group to finish the 42.2 km run Sunday along the picturesque Mount Vernon Trail along the George Washington Memorial Parkway, from Belle Haven all the way down to Riverside Park and back.

April 25th, 2009 Lel withdraws from London Marathon with injuryLONDON — Martin Lel withdrew from Sunday's London Marathon after failing to recover from a hip injury, thwarting his bid to become the first man to win it four times. The 30-year-old Kenyan said Saturday that he didn't want to take any risks with the right hip, which he injured during his final training session last weekend.

April 23rd, 2009 3-time champion Lel fit to run London MarathonLONDON — Three-time champion Martin Lel should be fit for Sunday's London Marathon after a scan showed that his hip injury was not serious. The 30-year-old Kenyan, who won the event the past two years and in 2005, was diagnosed with a tendon inflammation following an MRI scan but has no problem with the hip bone, organizers said Thursday.

January 17th, 2009 MUMBAI - Corporate heads and film personalities joined an estimated 40,000 people running for peace and unity at the Mumbai marathon that got underway here Sunday morning. While the 21-km Half Marathon began at 7.15 a.m., huge crowds joined the full 42-km main marathon of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, which started half an hour later.

January 17th, 2009 MUMBAI - Kenya's Kenneth Mugara won the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (42 km), while Surinder Singh of India won the 21-km Half Marathon here Sunday morning. Kavita Raut won the Women's Half Marathon, a spokesman told IANS here.

January 17th, 2009 MUMBAI - Kenyan runners swept all the three positions in the men's open section at the Sixth Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon here Sunday. Kenneth Mugara emerged champion with a new course record of two hours 11 minutes and 51 seconds, ahead of compatriots David Tarus (two hours 12 minutes and two seconds) and two time winner John Kelai (two hours 12 minutes and 23 seconds).

January 13th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore and her daughter Soha Ali Khan will take part in the Mumbai Marathon Sunday in support of a cause taken up by actor Rahul Bose's NGO. Sharmila said that children were the future of India and as UNICEF'S goodwill ambassador she had taken a pledge 'to speak up for the cause of children whenever and wherever it is necessary'.
