LeT hawala racket busted in Kashmir

October 8th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Security forces are continuing with their manhunt for Lashkar -e -Taiba (LeT) militants hiding in the jungles of Pampore in southern Kashmir. Seventy two hours of their search and nab operation, the army has busted a terrorist hideout but failed to nab the militants who managed to flee under the cover of fire.

September 8th, 2009 LUCKNOW - The Lucknow police Tuesday arrested a man involved in an illegal money transfer racket and recovered Rs.5.33 lakh from his possession, officials said. The accused, Mirza Ajmal Begh, was arrested from the Thakurganj locality in the afternoon while he was going to hand over the money to a person.

September 7th, 2009 LUCKNOW - The crime branch of the Lucknow police Monday busted a fake ghee manufacturing unit in posh Gomtinagar locality and arrested two people, including the owner of the factory, officials said. "We raided the Amrita Dairy Private Limited and recovered over 50 quintals of manufactured fake and adulterated ghee," Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rajesh Singh told reporters.

September 4th, 2009 CHANDIGARH - A shopkeeper has been arrested here for illegally keeping rare species of turtles and selling them, police said Friday. Monu Kumar, owner of a meat shop in Sector 37 here, was arrested late Thursday evening and 15 turtles of three rare species and eight shells were recovered from his possession.

August 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - Uttar Pradesh Police Saturday claimed to have busted a blood trading racket with the arrest of six men here. The six were arrested from a hideout in the Thakhurganj locality, police said.

July 25th, 2009 VARANASI - A year after policemen from Punjab busted a 'Munnabhai' racket in the state Pre-Medical Test (PMT), a police team from Faridkot arrested an MBBS student of the Benaras Hindu University (BHU) medical college here for impersonating a candidate at the 2008 Punjab PMT examination. Manikant, a VII semester student at the BHU medical college, was nabbed by the Punjab police Friday on the basis of leads given by Delhi-based Sanjiv Kumar, who was stated to be the kingpin of the racket.

July 4th, 2009 MOHALI - Punjab police Saturday claimed to have busted an international drug trafficking racket with the arrest of four Nigerian youths here. According to district police chief Jatinder Singh Aulakh, the four - Alexandar, Paul, Alex, Okaio Sabio - were arrested in Sector 70 with 500 grams of heroin worth Rs.50 lakh (Rs.5 million) in the international market.

June 5th, 2009 LUCKNOW - The Uttar Pradesh police Friday said they had busted a prostitution racket, arresting four men and rescuing four women from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. "Acting on a tip-off, we raided a hideout in the Radhagli area of Firozobad district Thursday night and nabbed the four men," police inspector Krishna Kumar told IANS on phone.

June 2nd, 2009 GHAZIABAD - The Ghaziabad police Tuesday said they have busted a major auto lifting racket in this Uttar Pradesh district after arresting three members of the gang who were active in Delhi and the national capital region and were involved in stealing over 100 vehicles. Ten motor cycles and three scooters were recovered from them.
