Left urges government to take over distribution of Reliance gas

September 22nd, 2009 MUMBAI - Telecommunications provider Reliance Infratel, promoted by Reliance Communications and part of the R-ADA group, will come out with an initial public offer to the tune of 10 percent of its paid-up equity capital, group chairman Anil Ambani said here Tuesday. Addressing shareholders at Reliance Communication's annual general meeting here, Ambani said the draft red herring prospectus for the issue would be filed by group company Reliance Power with market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India.

September 14th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries is in talks with the Sri Lankan government for exploring oil in the island country. The government is "in talks with Reliance for petroleum exploration", Sri Lanka's Minister of Investment Promotion Navin Dissanayake told reporters here Monday.

August 13th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has constituted a four-member ministerial group to look into the dispute over natural gas from the fields of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries in the Krishna-Godavari basin and help in formulating the government's position on the matter before the courts. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will head the group, which includes Petroleum Minister Murli Deora, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and Law and Justice Minister Veerappa Moily.

August 3rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - The government will do everything to protect public interest which is its legal obligation, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Murli Deora told Lok Sabha in a statement over the distribution of gas from Krishna-Godavari Basin by Reliance Industries Limited. "We have nothing to do with the private dispute of companies or individuals," Deora said Monday in a statement, amidst protests from the opposition benches.

July 30th, 2009 MUMBAI - Power utility and infrastructure major Reliance Infrastructure, part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group, Thursday posted 25 percent increase in net profit to Rs.317 crore ($66 million) for the quarter ended June 30. The company's total income increased 7 percent to Rs.2,446.3 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal, compared to Rs.2,290.29 crore in the same quarter a year ago.

July 17th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Union Government filed an affidavit in connection with the Reliance Gas distribution case on Friday. The Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) led by Mukesh Ambani and the Reliance Natural Resources Limited (RNRL) of Anil Ambani are at loggerheads over the ownership of gas field in the Krishna - Godavari Basin in Andhra Pradesh.

June 29th, 2009 MUMBAI - Reliance Globalcom, part of the Anil Ambani-owned Reliance Communications, Monday said its revenues for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 increased 23 percent to Rs.1,880.3 crore ($391 million). The company had posted Rs.1,525.7 crore in revenue during the January-March quarter last year.

April 23rd, 2009 MUMBAI - The Anil Ambani-led Reliance Infrastructure Thursday said its standalone net profit rose 5 percent to Rs.1,138.88 crore in 2008-09 from Rs.1,084.63 crore the year before. The power distribution company, also involved in generation, transmission and trading of electricity besides constructing power plants, saw a 51.5 percent rise in its consolidated income at Rs.12,844.67 crore last fiscal as against Rs.8,480.31 crore the previous year.

March 25th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Reliance Industries will start gas production from its offshore Krishna Godavari (KG) fields in the first week of April, Petroleum Secretary R.S. Pandey said here Tuesday.

March 2nd, 2009 MUMBAI - In one of the largest merger deals in India, Reliance Petroleum will merge with its parent and the country's biggest company, Reliance Industries, in what the promoters say will create better synergies for them in the hydrocarbons space. The board of the two companies met here Monday to unanimously approve the merger in the ratio of one share of Reliance Industries for every 16 shares of Reliance Petroleum.

February 10th, 2009 MUMBAI - Walt Disney Studios will distribute movies that the Steven Spielberg-promoted DreamWorks Studios produces in partnership with Reliance Big Entertainment, part of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. Under the terms of a long-term arrangement, Disney will handle distribution and marketing of approximately six DreamWorks films each year.

January 6th, 2009 HYDERABAD - Reliance Digital, the consumer electronics arm of Reliance Retail, will sell Reva electric cars through its outlets across the country. Initially, Reliance Digital will sell the Reva through its digital stores in Hyderabad and Delhi.
