Kashmir youth eager to join Indian Air Force

September 24th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Unemployed youth of Jammu Kashmir assembled outside the employment exchanges on Thursday to register their names following reports that the State Government is likely to announce an employment policy on December 5. According to the reports, the State Government has issued a notification asking the unemployed youth to get registered at the nearby employment offices, as they would be announcing a comprehensive package on December 5.

September 12th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Youth in Srinagar got a chance to voice their views and grievances against the security forces at a pro-active meet held recently here. Jointly hosted by the All India Centre for Rural and Urban Development (AICURD), the New Delhi-based non-governmental organisation and the Kashmir University's Department of Students Welfare, the meet was aimed to bridge the gap as well as mistrust between the youth and the security forces in the valley.

July 13th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Security forces arrested two militants of Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror group, who planned to blow up a dam in Kashmir. Mohammad Shafakat and Mohammad Adnan were arrested from the forests of Shamashabari range in Kupwara district, 120 km from Srinagar.

June 4th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Police in Srinagar resorted to tear gas shelling and fired bullets in air to disperse violent mobs protesting against death of a youth. As per reports, the dead, Nisar Ahmed received serious injuries by a tear gas shell explosion two days ago when the security forces were engaged in dealing with a group of protestors who pelted stones at the police in down town Srinagar.

January 27th, 2009 AHMEDABAD - Congress general secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi is visiting this Gujarat city Friday to woo youths in the state to join the party, a senior Congress party leader said Wednesday. The Congress is conducting party elections in the state for its youth wing, said Ashok Tanwar, president of the All India Youth Congress.

January 23rd, 2009 JAMMU - The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is setting up a skills development centre in Jammu and Kashmir, a state that has around 300,000 jobless youth who are often targeted for recruitment by militant outfits. CII director general Chandrajit Banerjee said they would establish the centre in partnership with the state government on an investment of Rs.1 crore (Rs.10 million) in various skill development initiatives.

January 23rd, 2009 SRINAGAR - Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will chair a task force with members drawn from industry and academia to promote tourism, trade and investment in the state, it was announced Saturday. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the state government will also be actively involved in the initiative that will specifically identify areas and sectors that can be targeted for development.
