Judge to weigh in on teacher strike in Washington

KENT, Wash. — A judge is expected to weigh in Thursday on a teacher strike that has shut down the fourth-largest school district in Washington during the first week of classes.

A King County Superior Court judge could decide whether to fine striking Kent teachers who have defied a back-to-work order.

The two-week-old strike by 1,700 teachers is delaying classes for more than 26,000 students at 40 schools. Teachers say the main issue is class size.
