Jewellery worth Rs.10 mn stolen from businessman’s house

October 9th, 2009 NEW DELHI - In a daring, daylight dacoity, eight armed men Friday barged into the house of a businessman in northeast Delhi, and fled with cash and jewllery worth Rs.2 million after threatening his wife and three daughters-in-law at a gun point. The incident took place in New Usmanpur area when the masked robbers entered the ground floor house of Pawan Kumar Jain around 11 a.m.

September 28th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - Two people were arrested in Ghaziabad Monday and jewellery worth over Rs.10 million stolen from a shop in Karol Bagh area of the national capital recovered from them, police said Monday. Pappu Behra and Bappi Kumar, both residents of Orissa, were arrested from from NH-24 area of Indirapuram during routine vehicle checking.

September 25th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A businessman who runs several schools in the national capital region has reported cash and jewellery worth millions of rupees was stolen from his central Delhi house while the family was out, police said Friday. Sudhir Giri, who runs the chain of Giri International Schools in Delhi as well as in its suburbs, reported that he and his wife had gone to visit their relatives Thursday morning and when they returned after a few hours, they found the doors of the first floor residence in West Patel Nagar ajar and the house ransacked.

September 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - An idol worth nearly Rs.10 crore (Rs.100 million) in the international market was recovered from Uttar Pradesh's Jaunpur town, police said Tuesday. The incident occurred Monday night when police was patrolling the outskirts of the town, about 200 km from Lucknow.

September 7th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Burglars have looted cash and jewellery worth Rs.60 lakh from a businessman's home in Samaipur Badli here, police said Monday. According to police, when Mukesh Kumar Kashyap alongwith his family returned home around 4.30 p.m.

September 7th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A domestic help has been arrested for alleged looting at several places in south Delhi as well as in neighbouring Gurgaon and Hisar, police said Monday. Kamal Majhi, a resident of East Midnapur in West Bengal, was arrested from the cantonment area here four days ago after he robbed a senior Supreme Court lawyer of various precious articles.

August 31st, 2009 NEW DELHI - Six armed men barged into the house of a Delhi Police traffic inspector in the capital and looted cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs.2.75 lakh (Rs.275,000) at gunpoint, police said Monday. The six men, wearing masks, entered the east Delhi house of Sanjeev Kumar around 9:30 p.m.

August 22nd, 2009 NEW DELHI - Four armed men Saturday barged into a businessman's house here in broad daylight and stole jewellery worth Rs.1.5 million (Rs.15 lakh), police said. The robbers forcibly entered Brij Bhushan's Ashok Vihar residence in northwest Delhi around 2 p.m., a police officer said.

August 19th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - Seven unidentified men barged into a trader's house here Wednesday and decamped with cash and jewellery worth Rs.350,000, police said. The armed men entered hardware trader Ravi Verma's house at about 2.30 p.m.

August 3rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - Four unidentified armed men Monday evening barged into the east Delhi house of a businessman and looted cash and jewellery worth nearly Rs.3.50 lakh after holding his wife hostage at a gunpoint. Sudha Jain, 55, was alone at her Vivek Vihar house when the robbers walked in as the doors were open.

July 27th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - Four Nepali men employed at a Tanishq showroom in Ghaziabad allegedly fled with gold and diamond studded jewellery worth over Rs.5 million as well as cash, police said Monday. The theft came to light when the showroom, located on Ambedkar Road, was opened Monday morning and the staff found a number of diamond and jewellery articles missing from the boxes, a relative of showroom-owner Narendra Gupta said.

July 25th, 2009 GHAZIABAD - Jewellery worth about Rs.1 million was burgled from the house of a lawyer here after the residents were bolted inside their bedrooms while they slept, police said Saturday. The incident occurred late Friday night in the posh Rajnagar area of Ghaziabad, police said.

June 21st, 2009 GHAZIABAD - In two separate incidents here, the houses of two software engineers were robbed of cash, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs.17 lakh, police said Sunday. In the first incident, Atul Tyagi, a software engineer who runs his own business and is a resident of Niti Khand in Indirapuram area of Ghaziabad returned home from an outstation visit to find that his front gate lock had been broken and robbers had decamped with jewellery, cash and other valuables worth Rs.15 lakh, police said.

June 11th, 2009 NOIDA - Three men Thursday robbed a businessman's house here of cash and jewellery worth Rs.1.25 lakh after overpowering the domestic help, police said. The incident occurred Thursday afternoon in Balbir Singh Sethi's Sector 48 residence, police added.

March 6th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A 22-year-old woman, her husband and their associate have been arrested here for their alleged involvement in seven burglaries in Delhi and Jharkhand, the police said Thursday. Delhi Police arrested Kohinoor, her husband Mushtaq, 23, and their associate Jehangir Alam, 28, from Koria Bridge near the Old Delhi railway station Wednesday.
