ISAF commander meets Kayani to stop Taliban militants’ crossing over to Pak

The special forces backed by the international troops attacked a Taliban hideout in Chek district Friday, killing Mullah Yasin, a senior Taliban commander, along with his five associates, senior police officer General Abdul Razaq said.

September 30th, 2009 LAHORE - Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani has said Islamabad would not allow US drones to carry out strikes in Balochistan. Kayani, who was attending the 28th Tripartite Commission, which consists of senior military representatives from Pakistan and Afghanistan, told the military leaders that Pakistan does not support the US view regarding the targeting of militants inside Pakistan's boundary.

June 26th, 2009 RAWALPINDI - The Pakistan Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Kayani has said that the security forces would certainly be able to establish control over the region captured by the Taliban and other militants, as the army is "executing a campaign plan" to achieve its target without much collateral damage. Addressing security personnel in South Waziristan where the army has launched an extensive operation against the Tehreek-e-Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud, General Kayani stressed that the insurgents would be eliminated, and the government's writ would be re-established in the region soon.

June 24th, 2009 KABUL - Thirty Taliban militants were killed in clashes with NAvTO and Afghan forces in separate incidents in southern Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday. A statement from the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) said 25 Taliban fighters were killed in the southern Kandahar province Tuesday night in a raid on rebel hideouts.

June 15th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - Pakistani Army chief Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Monday flew a combat mission against the Taliban, riding as the co-pilot in an F-16 jet for an aerial overview of the offensive against the militants in the country's restive northwest. June 15th, 2009 ISLAMABAD - At least 31 militants have been killed in latest operations carried out by the Pakistani security forces in northwest Pakistan, officials said Monday. The army said in a statement that in the 24 hours to Monday evening at least 31 militants have been killed and 50 others wounded in operations carried out in different parts of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and in South Waziristan tribal agency.

May 27th, 2009 KABUL - An Afghan district governor, his three sons and a civilian were killed in a Taliban ambush in eastern Afghanistan Wednesday, while 15 militants were killed in fighting with Afghan and NATO-led forces in the same region, official said. Nader Khan, the governor of Umni district in southeastern Paktika province, was en route to Yahyakhel district Wednesday afternoon when his vehicle was attacked by Taliban militants, the police said.

May 8th, 2009 RAWALPINDI - Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Kayani has said the Army would mobilise all available resources to launch a 'decisive operation' to crush and flush out the Taliban from North West Frontier Province (NWFP). "The Pakistan Army will employ requisite resources to ensure a decisive ascendancy over the Taliban," The Daily Times quoted General Kayani, as saying at the 118th corps commanders' conference held at the General Headquarters (GHQ).

April 24th, 2009 RAWALPINDI - Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, on Friday said the Army is determined to root out the menace of terrorism from the region. General Kayani further said the Army would fully support the civilian government in its fight against militancy.
