Iran’s top leader: US “wrong” on nuke threat

TEHRAN,Iran — Iran’s supreme leader says U.S. officials are “wrong” about his country’s nuclear program and the threat Iran’s missiles pose.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on state-run radio Sunday that U.S. officials who have raised concerns about Iran’s missiles and say “Iran intends to build a nuclear bomb, they know these words are wrong.”

The remarks by Khamenei, who has final say on all state matters in Iran, are the first official reaction by the government since President Barack Obama on Thursday scrapped a European missile defense plan.

Obama says he wants to replace it with one he better equipped to deal with the Iran’s short- and medium-range missiles.

Tehran says its nuclear program is purely peaceful, a claim the U.S. and others have rejected.
