IOC hails Sochi preparations, warns against delays

SOCHI, Russia — A top International Olympic Committee official has praised Russian organizers of the 2014 Winter Games but warned against any delays in preparations.

Jean-Claude Killy and the IOC’s coordination commission are spending two days examining Olympic venues at the Black Sea resort of Sochi.

Killy said Wednesday that close coordination between sporting bodies and government agencies will be key a successful games.

Russia’s worsening economy has slowed down the construction industry and threatened to derail preparations for the games. But Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak said funds earmarked for building work in Sochi will be allocated as planned.
