Infosys opens corporate education centre in Mysore

September 28th, 2009 MYSORE - A colourful procession of caparisoned elephants or 'jumbo savari', watched by thousands of people including those from abroad, marked the end of the 10-day Mysore Dussehra celebrations here Monday. The highlight of the jumbo savari was elephant Balarama carrying the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari placed on the 750-kg golden howdah (carriage) mounted atop him.

September 15th, 2009 MYSORE - Sonia Gandhi, chief of India's ruling Congress Party, today inaugurated a world-class corporate global education centre of Infosys Technologies in Mysore. The facility is an extension of the IT major's Global Education Centre (GEC), which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in February 2005.

September 7th, 2009 KOLKATA - The projects proposed by Infosys Technologies and Wipro in a township just outside the state capital has been scrapped, the West Bengal government informed the two IT majors Monday. The projects were to come up in the proposed IT township at Rajarhat near Salt Lake but had become controversial in recent weeks following allegations that land sharks had been involved in acquisition of plots there.

July 28th, 2009 MYSORE - The judicial custody of Sriram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik, who was arrested for allegedly making inflammatory speech at Kyathamaranahalli, a Mysore suburb, in April this year, ends today. On July 25, the Sessions Court sent him to judicial custody till today.

July 25th, 2009 MYSORE - The Sessions Court in Mysore on Saturday denied bail to the Sriram Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik and sent him to judicial custody till July 28 for allegedly making inflammatory speech at Kyathamaranahalli, a Mysore suburb, in April this year. Mutalik, who had visited Kyathamaranahalli after the communal clashes in April, had allegedly addressed a gathering of local residents in the locality.

July 10th, 2009 BANGALORE - Undeterred by the impact of the global meltdown on its revenue and profits, IT bellwether Infosys Technologies and its subsidiaries hired 3,538 people in the first quarter of this fiscal. With retention remaining high, the company and its subsidiaries saw a net decline of 995 employees during the quarter under review as against a net addition of 1,772 in the previous quarter and 3,192 in the year-ago period.

July 2nd, 2009 MYSORE - Two persons were killed and three others injured, as two communities armed with batons and weapons clashed over an alleged desecration of a religious school in Mysore district of Karnataka on Thursday. According to the police, they had to resort to lathi-charge and use teargas shells to disperse the crowd, as the news about the desecration angered members of one community, who came out with weapons and batons onto the streets and had a scuffle with members of another community.
