India to hold joint military exercise with China in 2010

October 12th, 2009 NEW DELHI - India and the US Monday launched one of their largest-ever ground combat joint exercises codenamed 'Yudh Abhyas' (war study) at Babina in Uttar Pradesh. For the next two weeks, Mechanised Infantry Battalion of the Indian Army and Second Squadron of 14th Cavalry Regiment of 25 Stryker Brigade Combat Team, comprising of 325 men from the US, would be undertaking joint training exercises.

October 10th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Indian Air Force's (IAF) deep penetration strike aircraft Jaguar will fly down to Oman this month for a military exercise. "To further military diplomacy and for addressing issues of inter-operabililty, IAF will be conducting a series of international exercises.

October 1st, 2009 DILI - East Timor is scheduled to conduct its first joint exercise with the US military this month to bolster the skills of the country's armed forces, US officials said Thursday. Members of the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and the US Navy are due to be in East Timor from Oct 13 to 23 to hold joint military exercises with the Falintil-FDTL (Force de Defesa de Timor Leste), said Hans Klem, the US ambassador to East Timor.

The participating IAF aircraft include IL-76, AN-32 and Mi-17 helicopters, while USAF will participate with C-17 Globemaster, C-130J (Super Herclues) and C-130H transport aircraft.

September 18th, 2009 SINGAPORE - Singapore and Australia are conducting a joint naval exercise in the South China Sea Sep 18-25, officials said. Navies of the two countries will conduct a range of exercise such as surveillance, air defence and anti-submarine warfare, Singapore's defence ministry said.

September 3rd, 2009 NINGBO - China's maritime rescue services staged their biggest exercise so far in the East China Sea Friday by involving 35 ships, three aircraft and 1,000 personnel. The exercise was jointly held by the Ministry of Transport and east China's Zhejiang province, said He Yipei, deputy director of the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration.

August 21st, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Indian Air Force on Friday said that India and the US will hold a joint military exercise, involving transport aircraft and helicopters, in October. "We are going to hold 'Exercise Cope-India' in October this year with the US Air Force in Agra and Chandigarh involving transport aircraft and choppers from both sides," IAF officials said.

June 15th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Indian and French navies, which have been conducting the "Varuna" joint exercise for the past seven years, will engage outside Indian waters for the first time when the war game is conducted off the coast of Brittany June 27-July 4. For the last seven years, India and France have continually strengthened their bilateral naval relation as a part of which we have conducted an annual bilateral exercise, called Varuna.

April 20th, 2009 NEW DELHI - On the maiden visit of an Indian Navy chief to China, Admiral Sureesh Mehta will be attending the Chinese International Fleet Review during his week-long tour, an official said here. Seeking to engage the Chinese military on a greater level, Mehta flew to China on Saturday night and will return April 25.

April 13th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Seeking to engage the Chinese military on a broader level, Indian Navy chief Admiral Sureesh Mehta will undertake his maiden visit to China and attend the International Fleet Review beginning next week, an official said here Monday. Three Indian warships and a tanker of the Eastern Fleet will be participating in the International Fleet Review, being held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Chinese Navy.

March 21st, 2009 NEW DELHI - Indicative of growing bilateral military ties, Indian Navy warships will, for the first time, participate in China's International Fleet Review in late April, an official said. 'Three warships and a tanker from the Eastern Fleet sailed today (Friday) to participate in the International Fleet Review April 20-24,' a senior naval officer said.

February 26th, 2009 NEW DELHI/KOLKATA - India and Bangladesh continued their first joint military exercise in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district Thursday amid reports that the mutiny by Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) troopers, which saw the killing of at least 50 people, spread beyond Dhaka. 'The Indian Army, Air Force and Bangladesh Army have been participating in the exercise to test their battlefield tactics since Feb 22.
