September 15th, 2009 LEH - Members of the exiled Tibetan community at Leh reacted strongly to the recent Chinese trespass into India's border areas in Ladakh region. Such concern was expressed by functionaries of Tibetan fora based at Leh on Monday.

September 14th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra, at present on a five-day visit to the Ladakh region, Monday visited some forward army positions in the region.

September 3rd, 2009 LADAKH - To attract more tourists, a 15 day long festival commenced in the polo ground of Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region on Tuesday. Union Tourism and Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Kumari Selja, while inaugurating the festival, said that this event would help showcase the rich culture, heritage and lifestyle of Ladakh, as the modern-day tourist is travelling to experience the local culture and heritage and not just for sightseeing.

August 11th, 2009 LADAKH - A biogas plant in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region will serve as a cheap and a new renewable source of energy once it is dedicated to the people in the region. The plant has been set up at Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR) in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC).

May 18th, 2009 SRINAGAR - The independent MP from Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir joined the National Conference (NC) Monday bringing the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance's (UPA) tally to 263 in the newly elected Lok Sabha. Ghulam Hassan Khan, who fought the Lok Sabha election against the Congress candidate in the cold desert region of Ladakh, announced his decision to return to the National Conference at a news conference here.

May 18th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said the National Conference (NC) would provide "unconditional support" to the UPA Government. "The return of Ghulam Hassan Khan is something that we wanted, but it is not against the desires of the Congress Party.

May 16th, 2009 SRINAGAR - The National Conference (NC)-Congress combine won five of the six Jammu and Kashmir Lok Sabha constituencies while an independent was leading in Ladakh. NC president Farooq Abdullah was declared winner from Srinagar constituency after he defeated his closest rival Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), by a margin of nearly 32,000 votes.

May 13th, 2009 BARAMULLA - Over 25 percent voting was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla constituency until 1 p.m. Wednesday after a slow start early in the day despite a boycott call by separatists and threats from militant groups.

April 4th, 2009 LEH - A few German volunteers along with residents in Ladakh district of Jammu and Kashmir are running a non-governmental organisation to provide required medical facilities to the physically challenged children of the state. In 2003, a German couple, Karola and Juergen Kostial while visiting a village in Ladakh came across a child with CP (Cerebral Palsy = brain damage).

March 12th, 2009 SRINAGAR - Ice hockey players from Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir will represent India at an international event. The team will represent India at the IIHF challenge cup of Asia being hosted at Abu Dhabi.
