Illegal arms unit busted in Uttar Pradesh, four arrested

September 16th, 2009 LUCKNOW - A bandit wanted in over a dozen criminal cases, including murder, was Wednesday arrested from Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot district, police said. Chukki Yadav, who carried a reward of Rs.35,000 for his capture, was caught by the Special Task Force after a shootout.

September 14th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Two young men were arrested after an hour-long gunfight with police and charged with illegal possession of several firearms in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh, authorities said Monday. Babunandan and Kanhiya Jaiswal -- both in their early 20s -- were arrested late Sunday in Badhauchghat town of Deoria, about 300 km from state capital Lucknow.

September 8th, 2009 LUCKNOW - The Lucknow police Tuesday arrested a man involved in an illegal money transfer racket and recovered Rs.5.33 lakh from his possession, officials said. The accused, Mirza Ajmal Begh, was arrested from the Thakurganj locality in the afternoon while he was going to hand over the money to a person.

September 7th, 2009 LUCKNOW - The crime branch of the Lucknow police Monday busted a fake ghee manufacturing unit in posh Gomtinagar locality and arrested two people, including the owner of the factory, officials said. "We raided the Amrita Dairy Private Limited and recovered over 50 quintals of manufactured fake and adulterated ghee," Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rajesh Singh told reporters.

August 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - Two aides of underworld don Chhota Rajan were arrested after a brief gunfight with security personnel in Uttar Pradesh's Allahabad district, police said Saturday. Mohammed Masil and Abdul Gufran, both in their early 20s, were arrested Friday evening following a joint operation of the police and Special Operation Group (SOG).

August 22nd, 2009 LUCKNOW - Uttar Pradesh Police Saturday claimed to have busted a blood trading racket with the arrest of six men here. The six were arrested from a hideout in the Thakhurganj locality, police said.

July 8th, 2009 LUCKNOW - Police have busted a spurious liquor manufacturing unit that was operating from a school in a town in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district and recovered 560,000 litres of illicit liquor, officials said Wednesday. "Huge stock of spurious liquor was recovered during the raids conducted late Tuesday at the Siddharth Convent School in Chaksadar town in Ghazipur," police inspector D.P.

January 2nd, 2009 LUCKNOW/BHOPAL - Five people have been arrested and fake currency with a face value of over Rs.100,000 seized in separate raids carried out in two towns of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, police said Saturday. Two people, including a woman, were held with counterfeit currency notes amounting to Rs.100,000 in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district Friday night, district police chief Lalji Shukla told IANS over telephone.
