IGNOU starts skill training to enhance employablility

October 12th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC) for industry specific training programmes. The MoU aims at starting educational programmes in the skill based domains of apparel, garments, fashion designing, which will ensure employment to a large section of the society, said AEPC Chairman Rakesh Vaid.

July 28th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The government Tuesday signed a pact with International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents some 230 airlines comprising over 90 percent of scheduled air traffic globally, on skill development in the aviation sector. Under the pact signed in Geneva, IATA will help Indian aviation industry personnel enhance skills to help them match global standards, the government said Tuesday.

July 6th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Impressed by its excellence in education and plans for further expansion, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee Monday allocated Rs.500 million to the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The Union Budget 2009-10 proposals said that IGNOU, which has been in the forefront of distance education, has been provided an allocation of Rs.900 million that also includes Rs.400 million for grants to state open universities.

July 4th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Saturday launched a skill development programme to train about 100,000 domestic workers here in a variety of subjects ranging from personal hygiene to first-aid. The scheme will be launched by Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal Saturday and the colleges will commence their courses from the coming academic session, the varsity said Friday.
