May 10th, 2009 RANCHI - Three criminals, allegedly extorting money, were beaten to death by villagers in Gumla district of Jharkhand, police said Sunday. According to police, a group of five criminals claiming to be members of Maoist outfit Jharkhand Liberation Tiger (JLT) (now known as People Liberation Front of India (PLFI)), were demanding money from residents of the district's Kesipara village late Saturday night.

April 20th, 2009 GIRIDIH - The Maoists bombed a school in Kiukra village of Giridih District in Jharkhand on late Sunday night. The four-roomed school was used as a shelter by the security forces for four days during the combing operations last week, ahead of the second phase elections in Jharkhand on April 23.

April 9th, 2009 RANCHI - A Maoist commander was killed in a gun battle with a rival group while a civilian was killed and four security personnel were injured in a bomb blast in Jharkhand, police said Thursday. Krishna Yadav, a zonal commander of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist, was killed by a rival Maoist group, Jharkhand Prastuti Committee, in Hazaribagh district Thursday.

March 26th, 2009 RANCHI - The Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) have agreed to a seat sharing deal in all but two Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand and have decided to go for a 'friendly fight' in these seats, leaders of the two parties said here Thursday. 'We have evolved a consensus on 12 Lok Sabha seats of the state.

'We are in favour of forming a third front with support of the Left and smaller parties of the state,' Dulal Bhuiya, national general secretary of JMM, told IANS Tuesday.

March 1st, 2009 RANCHI - Suspected Maoist guerrillas blew up a panchayat community building in Jharkhand, the police said Saturday. According to the police, more than 30 activists of the outlawed Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Friday night blew up the building in Mahdand village of Palamau district, around 190 km from here, by using detonators.

February 1st, 2009 RANCHI - Residents of a Jharkhand village lynched three Maoist rebels who attempted to abduct a contractor but failed, police said Monday. The rebels abducted Sanjay Mahto, a contractor involved in constructing a panchayat building, Sunday night from Hesalpidi village, around 45 km from Ranchi district headquarters.

December 22nd, 2008 RANCHI - Suspected Maoist rebels shot dead five labourers in the Gumla district of Jharkhand, police said Tuesday. 'We suspect hand of Jharkhand Liberation Tigers (JLT) behind the killing,' Superintendent of Police Baljeet Singh told IANS by telephone.
