High Court rejects Vikas Yadav’s plea on jurisdiction

August 28th, 2009 NEW DELHI - A Delhi court on Friday dismissed the plea of city police to drop charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act (MCOCA) against underworld don Abu Salem in an extortion case lodged here in 2002. Delhi Police had filed an application under the provisions of Criminal Procedure Code for withdrawal of the MCOCA charges against Salem on the ground that it was against the condition for his extradition agreed to between India and Portugal.

August 26th, 2009 New Delhi, Aug 26 (ANI0: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday accepted the findings of the National Human Rights Commission's (NHRC) giving clean chit to Delhi Police in the Batla House encounter case and declined to institute a judicial probe into the gun-battle. A Bench headed by Chief Justice A P Shah rejected the plea of an NGO, 'Act Now For Harmony and Democracy', seeking judicial probe in the case on the alleged ground that the NHRC has failed to conduct a proper probe.

August 6th, 2009 SRINAGAR - A court in Shopian on Thursday rejected the bail application of Jammu and Kashmir police officers, who were arrested in connection with the alleged rape and murder of two women in Shopian. The court rejected their plea under the Section 497 of CRPC (discretionary powers of the judge to grant bail or not).

May 2nd, 2009 MUMBAI - A special court dismissed the plea of Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone survivor of Mumbai terror attacks, for permission to access the X-ray plates of his dental and bone tests to seek medical opinion regarding his age. Earlier, a special court had ruled that Kasab is not a minor.

April 2nd, 2009 PATNA - The Patna High Court Thursday rejected Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Rajesh Ranjan Yadav alias Pappu Yadav's plea to suspend his conviction in a criminal case so that he could contest the coming Lok Sabha election. A division bench of the court rejected the petition of Yadav, who has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a lower court for murdering Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) legislator Ajit Sarkar in 1998.

March 27th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Friday dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Varun Gandhi after the lawyer for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate charged with making communal speeches withdrew the petition. The lawyer said he was withdrawing the petition since the Allahabad High Court had already dismissed Varun Gandhi's plea to quash the first information report (FIR) filed by the police in Pilbhit, the Uttar Pradesh constituency from which he is contesting in the April-May Lok Sabha poll.

March 25th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday dismissed the petition by jailed Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) candidate Mukhtar Ansari for contesting in the coming Lok Sabha elections. A division bench comprising justices Ashok Bhusan and Arun Tandon held that Ansari cannot contest elections as he does not have voting rights.

March 25th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Wednesday reserved its order on the bail plea of Vikas Yadav, son of Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav, and his cousin Vishal Yadav, undergoing life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara five years ago.

March 22nd, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court has rejected the plea of Uphaar Cinema owners and real estate tycoons the Ansal brothers for handing over to them the cinema hall, which was sealed after a fire tragedy that killed 59 people in 1997. In their plea, the Ansals stated that they wanted the cinema hall for its productive use.

February 15th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Monday dismissed a plea from jailed Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammed Shahabuddin to be allowed to attend parliament. Shahabuddin, who is serving life imprisonment in a kidnapping case in Bihar's Siwan jail, had filed a petition requesting that he be allowed to attend the Feb 16-26 Lok Sabha session.

January 19th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Tuesday rejected a plea of a group of residents from south Delhi seeking direction to the Wakf Board to shift a 128-year-old mosque elsewhere though it asked devotees not to crowd the area. Hearing the petition from the residents of the Aravali Apartments from Alaknanda area, a division bench headed by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul asked police to ensure that the rights of the devotees who come there to perform Namaz are protected.

January 8th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Delhi High Court Friday rejected the bail plea of Utsav Bhasin, the teenaged son of a Haryana industrialist who is accused of mowing down a man with his BMW car in south Delhi. Justice Veena Birbal dismissed the bail plea of 19-year-old Bhasin, saying the rejection was based on initial evidence that he ran away from the spot and that his car was damaged.

December 22nd, 2008 KOLKATA - The Calcutta High Court Tuesday rejected the bail plea of industrialist Ashok Todi's brother Pradeep Todi, in jail for his alleged involvement in the mysterious death of his niece's husband Rizwanur Rehman last year. The court said Pradeep Todi had played a key role in abetting Rizwanur's suicide by giving money to the Rizwanur's neighbour S.M.
