LONDON - British comic Ricky Gervais has called England a nation of losers and believes Americans are more confident.

According to thesun.co.uk, Gervais in an interview was asked why British actors often played misfit characters. He replied: ‘I think we play the loser well because England’s full of them. We celebrate our losers, we celebrate our underdogs. We build them up and then we don’t like them anymore - whereas Americans celebrate success.’

The 47-year-old added: ‘Americans are brought up to believe they can be the next president of the US. British people are told, ‘It won’t happen to you’. It sounds like a generalisation, but it’s true.’

Gervais starred in hit TV shows ‘The Office’ and ‘Extras’. He was being interviewed by CNN as he promoted his movie ‘Ghost Town’.
