GE names Flannery head of India operations

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — General Electric Co. said Thursday it named John Flannery as president and CEO of its operations in India to streamline and expand its operations there.

Flannery, 47, will oversee the consolidation of the conglomerate’s Indian businesses into a single team with an integrated strategy that will help GE grow through local partnerships, technology leadership and strategic investments. India has growing energy, healthcare and transportation needs, GE said.

“We will create a ‘one GE’ approach in India that will bring the totality of GE’s offerings to customers, partners, governments and employees,” Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt said in a statement. “It is time for GE to become a truly great local company in India and John is the right person to lead our team of 12,000 employees there.”

GE credited Flannery with building a similar business model for its finance business, GE Capital, across Asia since 2005. He oversaw GE’s financial-services businesses as president and CEO for the region.

Flannery, a 22-year veteran of GE, previously held sales leadership and finance positions at GE Capital.
