Garmin recalls card with incorrect marine depths

OLATHE, Kan. — Navigational device maker Garmin Ltd. is recalling a data card for some of its boating devices after reports the card sometimes give inaccurate readings of water depth off Sweden and Denmark.

Garmin announced the voluntary recall Thursday for the 2009 version of its marine cartography card called “BlueChart g2″ and “g2 Vision.”

The cards reportedly depicted incorrect depths for waters, increasing the possibility of running aground. The only reports of problems were off Sweden and Denmark, but Garmin says it is recalling the cards worldwide just to be safe.

Customers who turn in their data cards will receive free copies of last year’s data card and a free copy of the 2009 card once it’s corrected.
