Gangster beaten to death in Bihar temple town

September 16th, 2009 SHIMLA - Seven antique idols have been stolen from a Himachal Pradesh temple, making it the second such theft in a less than a week, police said Tuesday. The idols were found missing Monday from the Keem temple near Rampur town in Shimla district, about 160 km from here.

August 4th, 2009 PATNA - Police Tuesday busted an illegal gun factory run by notorious gangster Prakash Mandal and arrested 50 of his aides in Bihar's Munger district. Seventeen pistols, a rifle, some crude bombs, two horses were also recovered during the crackdown on the gangsters.

June 27th, 2009 LUCKNOW - A gangster who had 28 criminal cases pending against him was found shot dead in an Uttar Pradesh town, police said Saturday. "Babloo Dubeys bullet-ridden body was found today (Saturday) in the fields near Jahanganj town in Azamgarh district," police inspector O.P.

June 17th, 2009 PATNA - Two businessmen were shot dead Wednesday by unidentified men in a town in Bihar's West Champaran district, police said. Two brothers Jitendra and Sanjay Sahi, owners of Sahi Construction, were killed by unidentified men when they were on their way home in Bettiah town in West Champaran, some 200 km from here, police said.

May 23rd, 2009 PATNA - In ever-rising instances of mob rule in Bihar, two people, including an alleged rapist of a minor girl, were lynched Saturday, police said. Subhash Yadav, in his mid 20s, was beaten to death by an irate group in Naugachia in Bhagalpur after he allegedly raped a four-year-old girl Friday evening, an official said.

May 4th, 2009 PATNA - A 13-year-old boy was beaten to death for allegedly plucking mangoes from an orchard in a Bihar village, police said Monday. Ravi Panda was beaten to death Sunday evening in Bakshaghat near Purnia town, about 400 km from here.

March 17th, 2009 PATNA - Three people have been killed by suspected Maoist rebels in a Bihar village, police said Tuesday. The incident took place when armed Maoist guerrillas attacked Khaira village of Lakhisarai district late Monday night.

March 13th, 2009 PATNA - A Maoist rebel has been beaten to death by a group of villagers in Bihar, a police official said Thursday. Ravidas alias Badal, a self-proclaimed area commander of the banned Communist Party of India-Maoist, was killed in Khaira village of Lakhisarai district, 160 km form here, Wednesday night, Additional Director General of Police Neelmani told reporters here.

March 5th, 2009 PATNA - In one more instance of 'mob justice' in Bihar, a group of people in Bhagalpur district Wednesday chased three suspected criminals and snatched one from a police vehicle and lynched them, officials said. The victims had allegedly robbed a truck driver and demanded extortion from a businessman in Balughat minutes before they were beaten to death at a rural market near Ratanganj in Bhagalpur, about 200 km from here, according to the officials.

February 16th, 2009 PATNA - A school teacher who had won the President's Award was shot dead while he was teaching in his classroom in a Bihar town Tuesday, the police said. Tun Bahadur, a teacher in the Marahiya primary school in Khagaria district, was murdered by unidentified men in front of students, the police said.

January 30th, 2009 PATNA - A Dalit widow was beaten to death by five girls in a Bihar town after she objected to their cutting grass in her field, police said Saturday. Shobha Devi, in her 50s, a resident of Ram Tola in Saharsa town, 225 km from here, was lynched by the girls of a neighbouring village.

January 26th, 2009 PATNA - A leopard was killed by villagers in Bihar Tuesday, a police officer said. The leopard was first stoned by the villagers and later beaten to death with bamboo sticks and iron rods.

January 20th, 2009 PATNA - A group of Hindu priests Wednesday closed down a primary school functioning in a temple complex in Bihar's Bhagalpur district since they claimed the government had not paid any rent for using the premises for over 50 years, officials said. The school had been running in the complex of the Hanuman temple in Lahri Tola village since 1955, district administration officials said.

January 14th, 2009 PATNA - Muslims have joined hands with Hindus to lay the foundation of a new temple, dedicated to the sun god, in a Bihar town. The two communities got together to lay the foundation of a temple at Manikpur Bazar in Kurtha in Arwal district, about 80 km from the state capital.
